Had a very close encounter with this Common Kingfisher a few days back. Was quite early in the morning and the sunlight was coming in at a low angle and quite intense. The back of the CKF is abit over...as the white behind the ear is "burned". All comments are welcomed.

Very nice catch indeed. It's very rare that you get this fella close to you and background is great too.

?....Uncle is better ( I'm almost 50). Your observation is correct, the original was underexposed...I need PS to bring it up. Too much processing will be .....so I did what I see was ok on my screen. With the lens trekker...I guess around 7 kilos...not so bad...I have trekked with it at Rifle Range Catchment area.. BTW, we are all NewBies.....he who says he knows everything is probably HisTory... ![]() |

Here another shot of the Common KF after a successful fishing dive. This perch is on the left of the original shot and sun is now slightly overhead....lighting is much harsher.

tanhb: my 2 cents worth... Personally, I find Pic 1 very slightly oversharpened, still very acceptable. In digital arena, pics coming from digital camera are generally softer and requires some sharpening. There are no clear halos seen around the bird, the 3-dimensional effect are still very obvious... 500mm F4L IS is a legendary lens, sharpness is its forte!! I thought the pic is just slightly noisy at the wings though (strange).
jeanie: In the market, we have 400mm f2.8 but not 500mm f2.8, only f4 being the largest aperture available... sharkspin: love your 1st shot, the burnt white behind the back doesn't affect me at all, overall excellent pic (relax a little on your sharpening) except some noise.. interesting since there is sufficient light and thus noise shouldn't appear... hmm..... |
