Default tokina ATX 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 or Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8

hello,

after reading reviews on standard zoom lenses, i've finally decided to go for either a tokina or tamron. Nikkor is out because the price is like $2.5k haha. So i wanna know which lens you would go for and why? haha...

my budget is currently ~$600 for a standard zoom lens =)

thanks in advance

how would you rate the tamron? can share a few pics to see the sharness and bokeh?
any issues with your glasses? read online that the QC on tamron not as good and it seeems tat there are a couple of cases where the lens need re-calibration.....

Both are walkabout lenses with nice reach.
I suggest reading MTF charts to compare both lenses and if to see the lens suit your needs.

While this thread is about Nikon mount, there is a more appropriate forum for third party lense.

thread moved

I don own this lens for a very long time, but so far so good...
here is another 100% crop and full resized pic, used the same setting as the previous but at 75mm.
MTF chart showed that the tamron is weakest at 75mm, so judge yourself.
resized pic from D50

100% crop of above img

nope... all the pic were straight out of camera with +2 sharpening. Only resized/crop were done.
but do check thoroughly before getting one.
