Personally, I feel that some guys do get intimidated by ladies with higher qualification or earning power. From my experience, when guys know that my major is in Psychology, they tend to clam up and feel 'smaller'. Or maybe it is a field in which people in general do not have a very good understanding of.

    6) Do ladies really mind or dun mind guys of a lower qualification n income?
    I personally would not mind..

    7) Is it the demand for equality in the society that ladies wanted to proof that whatever a guy can do they can also or to out perform guys or simply too career minded?(dun misunderstood me its ok to be career minded but not over)
Society has changed that women no longer need to stay at home and be a housewife. There are now "house-bands" (husbands) who stay home, take care of the kids & house. If my income is able to sustain the both of us and perhaps, a family, I don't see it being a problem. However, it may be a problem to some guys' ego and pride as being seen as a "house-band".

Then again.. Everybody has their own definition of being "too career-minded".

Minimum a Masters to go into practice. The market is relatively small for Psychologists to practice and most people in my class who are taking a Psy degree are either Teachers, Social Workers, Volunteers, Medical workers and a very small percentage of purely technical-based professionals (we're looking at 1 to 2%).

Mostly those who take Psychology are to complement their current field of knowledge. As for Psychologists u guys see holding "Dr [so-and-so]" usually have a PhD in Psychology (probably Clinical or any one of the specialised field) or as a personal capacity of a Medical Doctor.

Taking Psychology is fun, but NOT when writing reports as typical Singaporean rote-learning style will not work. And to make things worse, the exam tests based on your understanding and application of the theory and NOT simply vomitting whatever u'd memorised.

Just had my exams last week, a single piece exam paper, 8 questions, 20 pts each, 1.5 lines per question (and a very ambiguous one at that).

If writing's not exactly ur forte, better think twice.

I think the path of Psycho would suit me more since I'm relatively immune to scenes of blood, gore & body count.

When's the next all nighter marathon of the Complete Faces of Death Series & Ichi The Killer?

Psychos & Potential Psychos may join us.

Non-psychos & would-be Professional Killers who'd wanna train and harden themselves up will have to bring their own rope, toothpicks & neck braces to tie themselves to a chair and force their eyes open for the next 8hrs watching gory scenes in front of the 32" screen continuously.

u should read the Ichi the Killer manga instead... more gruesome than the Takeshi Miike movie... still finding the complete anime... and the prequel sucks...

Well I would rather that more people who are joining the rank doing
terrorism for the fake honor sake take up the subject and learn not to be a hypocrite.

These fundamental appearances of being moral and not
being able to understand the existance of humanity is cruel in the
education front. What do you think?

Er... I don't think studying psychology would change the way they think...

    It is an Ideology issue...

    It is an Ideology issue...
The world will always be in chaos when certain people adopted
dangerous ideology that stops others from progressing. Man will
keep on going becoming more and more prosperous through smart
thinking, hardwork and correct attitude for progress.

However through choice there will be people who wants to work less,
rest more and waiting for the fortune to strike. This kind of ideology
can defeat mankind to the verge of death and it is man's choice to
be differently identified according to his beliefs.

Could any organisations in the world be able to do something...
I suppose not even the United Nations can come up with an answer.
As predicted the world will come to an end one fine day.

jsbn, so u are taking it for a career switch or interest only? Or are you one of the groups comprising teachers, social workers, etc? :P

I'm in a dilemma now too. It's sad. Dun want to go into it and then find myself stuck here with only a paper. Cos I did some searching on the Net and heard from people and it seems psychology here is not so active.

Taking it primarily for interest not so much on the career switch.

    If I'm u, here's what I'd do:
    - Explore what I'm potentially going to do in the future.
    - Take a degree relevant to my future jobscope and concentrate.

Most people I'd noticed, take their degrees/dips and when asked what they wanna do in the future, its basically a, "Oh, work what's relevant to what I studied loh, den what else?" Kinda like stumbling along without a goal and taking whatever comes. I guess that's the reason why there are ppl job-hopping cos 'the other side pays more'.

Psy expands ur vision, which is very good. But not so in pragmatic Singapore unless u've got the idea to study for a Medical Degree, Dentistry, Medical Work, Teaching or Social Work. If u're talking abt armchair psychoanalysts, that takes many years to train.

I'm not very sure but u can pose ur questions during Open House abt future job prospects? Some experienced psychologists I'd encountered worked in IMH, MOE with their different fields of specialities.

P/S: Of cos, there's always the stigma of working in IMH. It all depends on how much u wanna help other people and overcome that stigma associated with IMH.

    .

    I agree with jsbn...

A degree in psychology is a good opening for you to explore for opportunities in working with people...

BUT if you do not enjoy being in a job that requires you to engaged another human being then maybe you are in the wrong course...

Should have taken business administration or marketing or engineering...
