I don't why my system suddenly reboots for reason. No blue screen or anything. Even reboots in WibXP safe mode. Suspecting memory problem. Can't be really sure need to check it later. Any suggestion what the problem may be.

It could be due to H/W or S/W failure. Or OS corrupted.

Can't be a temperature problem. System is running at 40C for AMD 64 XP3200 all fans are working. The voltages for the system are in tolerance. I will perform a memory check later this evening to confirm memory problem. My friend suggested in may some malware that infected the system.

Will be doing that once I confirm that the ram is not the cause of it. I just hate the hassle of formatting and reinstalling. Rember the days of win98 they advise reinstalling the OS every 6 months.

err... General, Reviews, Tech Talk Share tips & tricks, techniques, general photography chat.

it reboot to winxp safe mode only or it boot to winxp then reboot to xp safemode...

any sign b4 it reboot, like loud fan noise, pop up, etc?

wat i can guess is, maybe mobo off it due to overheating, or some worm activated and do reboot.

Memory problem won't cause system to reboot just like that.....it will at least give a "page fault" or "hex dump" because CPU, GPU and HDD still running.....it looks like there was sudden lost of power.....maybe a bad motherboard or even PSU....also check if there is any loose connector or short circuit around the mobo

Under System properties under Advance Start up & Recovery disable automatic restart. Than I was able to see the error Stop: 0x0000008E. Just disabled the hardware acceleration and the problem seems to have disappeared. Occured after I installed the new ATI driver.

i expereienced the same thing last week. My friend expereienced the same thing twice as well a day after me. He said he tracked it down to windows update, claiming that there's a windows update that was installed with or without your permission , he had hours of unsaved work though... poor man

Try to use the System Restore feature to the point before you install and ATI driver.

probably a trojain or worm. Just do a free scan at

www.housecall.trendmicro.com or if you are a student buy an antivirus scanner at student price. very cheap with 1 year free virus definition update as well.

It isn't a worm just a badly written video driver. Had no problem with the ATI drivers before AMD took over.
