Default PDA for Photos

Hi Y'all;

Not too sure if this is under banal or not but pls feel free to move it if it belongs there.

I am actually looking for a PDA.

Size should be around my Palm Vx,
Budget around SGD$850 or so.
Must be "coloured"
Li-Ion Batt
Must be able to use external storage, preferably CF.
Palm OS Preferred

Kindly advise?

Cheers and happy Lunar New Year!

Tungsten T fits most of your requirements except for the CF card support.

The HP Jornadas has a CF card slot and a very good color screen, but not sure if they are still available.

The toshiba 740 has CF and is a PPC, but i think it's beyond your budget. if you don't mind waiting, Dell will be coming out with one, the Axim that is both affordable and has CF slot, but i'm quite sure it will be thicker than your Palm Vx. But then again looking at your requirements, it's kinda hard to find something that will suit everything, especially the size.

yeah only ppc got CF slot...
BUT to view the images on another small LCD not very useful? even if the rezz is higher it's still rather small... unless u want to zoom inch by inch to check a 3 mp pic...

anyway the tungsten is $708 promo NOW..

Ok ok.. if i take away the CF criteria....

What sort of a media does these PDA use?
And if is possible for either the Zaurus or the
Tungsten to double up as an MP3 player?

Kindly advise

If you're looking at Palm OS, Sony's range of Clie have got a high resolution screen which are suitable for viewing images. The only drawback is that it uses the expensive MS. However, the battery life is much much better than a PPC.

If you don't mind the bulk of a PPC (with a CF sleeve) and it's shorter battery life, then go for an ipaq.

Yes for Tungsten. You will need to download and install a software player though. For more information on Tungsten, you can visit http://www.spug.net

For palm-based pdas, storage media is usually SD, MMC or MS.
For PPC, it's SD, CF or MD.

Tungsten has the capability to double up as an mp3 player, but palm has not announced any plans to release a software for playing it yet (that's y they're offering the free mp3 player).

Btw, if playing mp3s are impt to you, you can seriously consider the Sony Clie, which has a separate processor for playing mp3s (play up to 11 hrs with LCD off). Additionally, it has the high resolution screen which is good for viewing pictures.

As for PPCs, they usually last abt 2 hrs + only (playing mp3s with LCD off).

Tungsten got 2 SD slot, Zaurus 1 SD & 1CF and yes, Ipaq is the most fuctional... with bluetooth and WiFi built-in.

And yes, new gen PPC are pretty good media players, Tungsten does MP3 as well.
