Just read in dpreview on the launch of Nikon's 6MP D40. Very much lesser features but
places it in the same resolution and price bracket as the istDL. Although it has lesser features, its smaller, lighter and first time "sotong" buyers would probably choose it over the Pentax. I only hope that with Pentax now having a high end (K10D) and mid range (K100D), perhaps they can rebadge the istDL as the K1000D and price it at $800 to wipe the socks off the D40..? It's not a bad buy, except that lens compatibility REALLY sucks.
(Edit: I was also going to say, that Pentax's competition is the K110D... I wouldn't like to be buying a nikon right now. Such a tough decision. Although, having said that, I think the D40 + 18-200 VR would be a great choice )Last edited by dnaxe; 17th November 2006 at 01:12 AM. |

The *ist DL has been selling at $999 since earlier this year, though stocks in shops are probably low with the DL2 and K100D replacing it.
Even then, it did not have more sales or awareness than the Nikon D50 at $1388-$1488 list. It seems that brand recognition, not price is the problem. Those people I know considering buying DSLR for the first time only consider Nikon and Canon models. A sub $900 pentax probably would not have much effect on their choices. |
