I just picked up a Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO for my Canon 350D. The lens was good albit a bit soft on the longer range. I was thinking of picking up a "replacement" for my Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5 kit lens.
I was considering either the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX DG or the Tamron SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF). I was told that Tamron was more established over this distance and that Sigma has stop producing the 28-70mm f/2.8 lens. Does anyone have any experience with these lenses? Cheers Kelvin

Ya bro, heard a lot about the build quality and poor QC. Well, I'll put it off till next year and hope they sort out the problem.
Cheers Kelvin

I have the Tamron too.. you can't go wrong with that...
build wise it's acceptable for the price range, and the IQ is great! focusing is fast, though not the USM standard... but at around 600, u can't really complain... This is one value-for-money lens.. but like what the others say - check that it's a good copy.. bring your camera along to test it, and if i'm not wrong within a week u still can exchange it if it's not up to standard... |

got Minolta version of Tamron 28-75mm, it's sharp from f/4. But 28mm is really not wide enough for 1.5X crop sensor.

another point i noted is.. this is 1 of the most common lens being used at the motorshow other than the 17-40L and 50mm (of the various makes)

I've got this:
Tamron SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Shooting at f2.8 seems to be very soft to me... Maybe it's just me that is the problem? The f2.8 don't seem be useful to me IMO... I usually shoot at f4 instead to get the sharp pictures especially at 75mm... Also, it is not wide enough for me... I think the Nikon D70s kit lens will be better for me...

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthrea...highlight=75mm notice the text shots at 75mm f2.8, the contrast is quite lousy. |
