Hello, I just bought a DSLR
. I am wondering how should i keep the camera with some others lenses. Should I use Silica Gel only or I must have a dry cabinet. And what kind of dry cabinet I should buy. How much is it? Can you please give my some advice. Thanks a lot ![]() |

Both ways, as long as the camera is kept dry, it's really up to your preference.. Silica gel works, if u can find a big enough dry box to fit all your equipment in. In the long run however, it's not very cost effective, and you might as well invest in a dry cabinet.
It maintains humidity at a set level, and does not comsume much electricity. what's more it can last u years..dry cabinets also prepare u for any expansion. There is only so much a dry box can hold - they're all relatively small.. so if u buy any extra things in future there won't be any space... Here are some brands to start with: Akarui digi (Cathay Photo): I have a 90L one i bought recently for SGD266.. works well, although made in china. Trays are sturdy and come with foam inserts to protect your stuff.. they have analog hydrometers. Comes with 5 yr warranty. Toyo (Cathay Photo): Very expensive. Expect to pay around 200 to 300 more for the same size compared to Akurui Digi... made in Japan though, so you can be sure about quality. Comes qith either analog or digital hydrometer (digital costs more) Digi Cabi (TK Foto): I don't really know much about this, but i heard it's pretty reliable. Prices are the cheapest now coz they're having a promotion.. see this: http://www.digihub.com.sg/Uploads/pd...b3d9b48246.pdf hope it helps... Last edited by Adelfin; 11th November 2006 at 09:56 AM. |

Please plan ahead, which size of dry cabinet is suitable for your equipments and
60L or 90 L is enough? I kena stuck on dry cabinet 40L, after plan to get flash unit and another lens soon. this 40L dry cabinet,i brought not more than 6 months ago. may need upgrade soon. |

The Digi-Cabi is very good
But do you think 35%- 40% is too dry? Should I set it 50% |

Thanks, but the Toyo recommends 40%. It is quite hard to get above 40%, I can always get 35% to 38%. Maybe I need to turn the button anticlockwise a little bit more

If too dry, you risk your cameras and/or lenses as the mechanism need lubricant. The leather or plastic may crack too. Regards, Arto. |
