Hi all,
Recently I did a video for my dept's yr end party. My question is, say for example my dept is having deepavali gathering n they are having a mini concert where there is singing performance. Any idea about how the editing style would be? I need to edit it from 4hrs to 1hr. I was thinking, how abt when the singer starts singing jus take few moments n da ending of the song. That wat its shorten from 5mins to say 1 min. Would that style be ok or bad idea. ![]() |

If you're not paid extra for the work, you should just take the performance and dump it without as much editing as possible. 4 to 1 while maintaining the gist of the performance and inserting miscellaneous footage is a tall order. Unless you have a strict ruleset on how many minutes of the beginning and the ending you want to keep, you'll find yourself scrubbing through at least the realtime length of the footage. Coupled with the re-encoding time, that's going to amount to quite a bit.

YOu can just do a full summary of the event. Take the best part on each performance like a few seconds maybe .
Inserting relevant clips in between would help not to make it so boring. You can insert clips like facial reactions, group laughing, etc. Don't forget to include actual sounds too . see my video as an example |

Thank you very much for your inputs and help.
I've edited it from 3.5hrs to 35mins. every songs i cut about to 1min joined at paused interval and fade after each songs ( plus title of each song n singer at the beginning of each songs). Da ones which tha crowd loves i played for 2mins instead. Other than that the quizzes, audiences laughing clappin etc included Some performers said that why the need to edit? but the fact is but nobody is gonna sit n watch that for full 3.5hrs. Only special request for the performer who wants their own performance in the cd to be the most. At a special price ![]() |

If you have such offers, I am more than happy to be part of it... My partners and I can play the front assault, covering backstage prep and full frontal performance... that will be fun fun fun... heard already hands itchy liao..... Need to be challenged in higher platform event, not just weddings.... it can be abit bored.

Sorry to dig up a week-old thread, but that's a darn lame excuse for not being up to the job... :nono Broadcast fullsize camera are similar in operations to the little PD150/170!..Just that buttons are at a different location. 10mins of fiddling with the camera prior to the event will let any proficient cameraman who have full-size camera experience to learn the operations!!!! Totally no excuse for not being able to setup color temp and audio levels correctly!!! |

Call themselves pro... got colour temp and audio levels setup badly... sure 'kena' from me left and right (hey, it's stereo!) if I am the producer... too bad I'm long out of the profession to be a barking watchdog... er, actually I'm a nice doggie and won't bite ![]()

Heh.
I agree. if you're proficient in the broadcast ENG type of cameras, a scaled down PD camera wont be a challenge to you. Sigh. sigh sigh. The HDV V1 is a real beauty though. |
