Currently doing part-time videography.
Toying with the idea to do full-time.
Anyone interested to join force ?
join force so that we can share overheads & resources (rental, studio, video assesories, camera, advertisment, graphic designer, administrator, etc).

I'm a DVX user so prefer videographer who use the same cam.

I think it maybe not too wise to go into wedding video business fulltime.....if it means forgoing a good fulltime engineering job.

I saw some company offering $700+ packages with full edited raw & summary MTV. And they are not part-timers but full-timers with an office. I wonder how they cover overheads ?
I think if you have a shop & proper equipment and the video needs 3 days to produce including actual day filming, you need to charge at least $1200-$1500. But the market is like $700-$1200.

My idea is to have a shop front, equipment support and marketing support. Run a pool of part-time and full-time freelancers. Strict quality control. No matter part-time or full-time, charge customer about $1200-$1500. And commision videographer get about $600-900 per project. Workable u think ?

well, just to let u know..
I holds a full time job.. but i oso co-own a small setup productions house with quite ok setup including post productions work stations, some broadcast equip for format conversion, audio post productions, recording booth. -> http://sg.geocities.com/pixelabprodu.../audioroom.gif

i shd say biz is substainable but not big $$$. as wat u said, we are engaging freelancer (full-time and part-time) to back up us for extra job tat sometimes too many for us to cope.

quality control is diffinately important, but commisioning a videographer just for a day shoot $600-$900 is consider high which may increase your overhead cost.. (well, If any wedding shoot that have such budget for this range, do call me, i can shoot for u ).

Shop front is good to have especially for marketing but again it will increase your overhead cost. why not consider to advertise with me in my premises.. as i did mentioned B4 (in the other forum) if u still remember?

well, but I think no harm trying if u still have your fulltime job and have enough budget to setup such shop.

but again.. do consider to advertise with me before i open up all my slot to the public.. as the slot are rather limited.

For sharing, I had ran a production house for the better part of a decade...to a point of burn out. then went abt to work in a MNC. now hand itchy...so started own studio...if u interested we can see how we can go abt working something out...drop me a PM or give me a ring..number can be found in my other thread.

some honest feedback/suggestion on your future shop, hope you dun mind.
My vision of your cafe is like a meeting and socialising place for people in the industry.
so I suppose the advertisments are more for B2B kind of deal.
i don't think a end user consumer who needs to produce a video (corporate video/ wedding couple) would purposely go to the cafe to look for one.

My suggestion is you may also sell consumables like DVD medias, tapes, etc. What about video equipment rental ? Cafe only have business in peak hours. During non peak hours, can you convert part of the cafe into classrooms where you can conduct lessons (photography, videography, etc) ?

Can it also act like a shopfront or agent for freelancers ? Example, I have potential clients through internet. They wanted to see portfolio and discuss rates. I'll ask them to go to your cafe. Of course, you have all my portfolio materials, my self-introduction video and rates and you earn by commision if they sign up.

lately very busy as i am setting up a cafe as u can read from JRC in the earlier message and also having some small small proj going on.. but i will diffinately find time to drop by...

and well, to those who don know, Pierce is a very all rounded and talented guys.. know every aspect in productions in depth..

to be honest, the place is not tat big and not suitable to contact training.. but it is in my future plan.. including selling related assesories... and many many other ideas in mind, but i prefered to take it step by step.. anyway thks for the suggestions.

wat system / software u use? will u confortable to editing in our permises if we require your support?
