So far... my GF does complain a bit... but I remind her that this is a healthy hobby... so most of the times, the nags are short lived...
how abt nikon 80-400 f4, vr lens, buying a 4 carat. diamonds?
Usually wife+mom can't tell if you have a 50mm f1.8 or a 50mm f1.0. (Neither can they tell the difference between a VVS or whatever grade diamond or between a 0.9 and 0.95 carat diamond, but thats beside the point here)
So... trick is keep a separate account and siphon a little money out there once in a while, and when you buy something, no need to advertise to them. They can't tell the difference, neither do they care if you "need" it or not. That saves the nagging for other stuff... like the leaving the toilet seat up. Be prudent though... my wife did noticed when my lens collection went from 4 to 6 items! But obviously they were all "second hand bought cheap from Clubsnap".
ha!! when i bought my D200 i lied to my wife saying i had borrowed it from my friend and after a couple of months she asked how come i borrow so long and didn't return, i told her my friend sold it to me 2nd hand at cheap cheap price...
I never went photo gear shopping with wife.....it's a known problem And if I buy something, I will hide all the payment evidence
My wifey fully support mine hobby
she'll help me carry my purchases.
If I want to quit photography, she'll start nagging.
........Before I started, I told her: " I only have eyes for you, I don't go fooling around, this is my only hobby, don't get me started...."
I lup SG, but SG don't love me...
well, I say you use the new lens to take her picture and show her. tell her how beautiful she is then say you won't achieve that kind of result if not for the lens. get what I mean?
well, sophiandy buy something for ur wife
maybe it will stop the nagging.. or just live with it for awhile..
my mom used to nag at my dad for taking too much photos
and i hope my future hubby doesnt do the same to me..
oh yeah... it was after i did a photoshoot for her and her sis then she ease off..
i buy my stuff second hand , so the nag is not so strong , if she starts,
i will tell her its better u see my money spend on visible things, kehhkkk else i will have spare cash for others.....................
also life is short , i must make good use of every moment before my judgement day comes.
Juz ask her,
Btw lens and another woman, which would she prefer?
Thankfully, my gf is not complaining about my purchases though I bring her along whenever I am buying my photographic equipments.
Anyway, as brian mentioned above, most wifes don't know the diff between one cam/lens and another (as long as you don't change from black to white one lah )
Just gaffer everything and your wife just needs to know you have this big black camera. Five years ago, it was a big black camera. Five years later, still a big black camera. Of course, convert from film to digital must let her know (can't insult her intelligence when you chimp ) Don't let her handle it, if possible (most women loathe big cameras anyway).
If you not married yet, but have steady gf (meaning the potential life partner kind), better "condition" her first, so next time you will have an easier time
