Looking to buy this Friday, either Ixus850, Fuji F30 and Panny LX2.
F30 questions. 1. Is there any way to limit the ISO to 400 using full-auto mode, Program mode (if it exist)? 2. It doesn’t have any form of image stabiliser, does it? 3. Any F30 owners experiences low contrast photos during broad daylights? Thanks. |

1. There's program mode (not the full auto mode) where you can set the ISO anywhere between 100 to 3200 for fixed ISO (if you know what you're doing), or auto ISO up to 400 and auto up to 3200. On full dummy mode I dont think you can set your own ISO, don't have the camera here with me, but 80% sure. It will then be auto (but it tends to push the ISO up quite readily). 2. No optical stabilizer if that's what you're asking. The "stabilizer" its promoting is high ISO which obviously increases the shutter speed so its a form of stabilizer as well. 3. I read this in the reviews all over the internet, but not that I can tell from the pictures that I have so far. One thing that impresses me about the F30 is the low light performance. If you go to a dark large venue (opera theatre, etc) where the flash is not powerful enough to illuminate the whole place, you'll see that the picture coming out of the F30 beats anything out there in a point and shoot. ISO3200 is not nice at 100% blowup, but its ok when printed out on small prints and better than viewing something severely underexposed. Funny, I was making my choice between the F30, Ixus850/800 and the Pana LX07, but not the LX2, which I think is a different beast. Chose the F30 for high ISO (pana's blotchy pict anything above ISO200 just kills it for me), the battery life (I could fill a 1Gb card with 300+ photos, using flash, and playing back photos all the time and still have all 3 bars on the battery meter). The xD card is a problem but not a major one for me, doubt I'll need anything more than one or two 1Gb cards and they're relatively cheap nowadays. The size is slightly larger than your other choices but my wife still carries it in her handbag unhindered. Good luck with your choice. |
