Any comment on Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC vs Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) ? Which is better? Thinking of getting but can't decide on which? Latest prices?
I am using D70. Thanks in advanced. Last edited by gklight; 2nd November 2006 at 05:03 PM. |

And PS : I believe the mod will move this to General, Reviews, Tech Talk soon as this is not Nikon related other than the mount. |

I had the same question too.
The title should be Sigma 18-50mm vs Tamron 17-50mm. The following reviews prefer the Tamron lens than the Sigma. Sigma - http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...ns-Review.aspx Tamron - http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...ns-Review.aspx Price: Sigma - $830 Tamron - $680 Currently, alot places dont have stock for Tamron, but i found 1... at TK. Personally, I would go for Tamron, cheaper and saw many sample shots. Getting it later. Somehow.. after reading alot of review, got this superiority ranking among 3rd party lenses. Tokina -> Tamron -> Sigma. Am I right? |

No prob.
Enjoy reading the review. Tamron lens result come close to 70% of Canon, price is 30% of Canon. ![]() |

I got my SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) yesterday from TK.
Did some test shot. All without flash and tripod, used AP mode at F2.8. ![]() ![]() |

Bro, suggests that you try posting some outdoor shots of the same object but with different apertures (F2.8, 5.6, 11) so that we can see how good the lens is. Can?

We should organise a lens shootout between Sigma, Tamron, and Nikon. I'm happy to contribute my Nikon and my time for the test.

Hi Bro,
I think Tamron 17-50 is better than Sigma. I own one too, and I love it. http://www.popphoto.com/lensreview/t...m_f_._2.8.html Cheers, Hai |

Test verdict out. Not sure whether I test it correctly.
