Default 80-200ED vs 70-200AFS VR

i have the 80-200 non AFS version.
is it 'practical' to sell it and get the AFSVR70-200?
i'm not into sports.just overseas travel for shooting and i like VR cos no need tripod.+ it's silent.

can my 80-200 fetch anything at all in the market nowadays?

which version is ur 80-200?
1). AF80-200 f2.8 push pull

2). AF80-200 f2.8D push pull

3). AF80-200 f2.8D (2-touch whereby the focusing and zoom are 2 seperate rings)

if urs is the first, depending on condition, shud fetch around S$650/.+- used.
2nd would be around S$750/.+- used
3rd if in really mint condition, around S$1.1k.

why not read the local review for the 70-200 ??

http://www.clubsnap.org/display.php?...SVRreview.html

its a good lens to have.

VR is good to have. not a Need to have.

mine's the 3rd one.1.1k.means i still got to top up 1.6k for the VR one.
duh.

ya, i know vr wont replace need for tripods IF u want a particular scene to be shot with tripod.
but most of the time, i just need that little tweak in shutter speed so that it will eliminate the shake for low light conditions only.

my gear is killing me.i really dun wanna lug a 3kah(tripod) to kill me further.

If you dun mind the top up of 1.6k, then by all means, go for the VR 70-200.

Are you going to use on bodies like FM2? If so, do bear in mind that the 70-200VR is a G lens and you will have no aperture control.

the 70-200VR is a "sweet" lens...once u try it, u will love it..i got this lens not too long ago, when i shoot the first pic with it and review on the lcd, my impression was oh my god? is tis my d70s?? the color turns out nice and the pic is sharp..although i've not try with the 80-200 series, but i think the title of being a trinity is 名不虚传..save up for it lorz, and wait for MO from sykestang or oracle..

that's Nikon for u.

the 105DC is not that popular a lens as compared to the 70-200VR or the 17-55G, hence...
it only caters mainly to a small group of users.

it's a specialised lens, in my opinion, and unless u use it wk in wk out, then u can max out the $$ splashed on it.

otherwise, quite hard to justify the amount spent. of cos if u're rich....

as i say, i dun noe abt the 80-200, but it definitely performs much better than my other lens..like the 18-70, tamron 90mm..to buy or not its really up to you..but to have posted this question, it onli means u start to "xin yang yang" liao..or maybe u r after its VR? but as most have say, VR is onli an added feature..可有,可无..but u must go do weights training first, quite a burden to carry around .. killing my shoulders..

Have used AF-D? 80-200 (one-touch), AF-D 80-200 (two-touch), AF-S 80-200 and AF-S 70-200mm. I do find the colour and sharpness of AF-S 70-200 to be the better of the four. And not to mention the ergonomics of the 70-200, it simply beats all it's 3 predecessor.

But again, to top up close to 1.6k of dough might be painful, I believe your AF-D 80-200 will serve you well. But if you really want to get a bit more colour, sharpness, better ergonomics, better lense technology, AF-S motor (quieter and faster focusing) and probably better resale value, AF-S 70-200 will be a good choice. (I would buy if I'm in this situation. )
