Nice portrait shot of this LGB, Tan.

Were you using a close-up filter for this, the quality isn't so good. But you have spot on focus on the eye. Well done.

Background is bit too dark though. Good try!

Composition is there, but somehow, the pic is not pin sharp.

Checked your EXTIF, not sure if the F13 provides sufficient DOF for your lens? Whats your exp at that setting?

Thanks tchuanye. Yeap look like got to try higher f-stop or got to be more careful with the parallel alignment to lens. Shutter is 1/125 taken with flash.

Higher F-stop wont cure it.

What's your lens & camera & flash etc?

Is the picture above cropped (this is a very important question).

Tankm,

Nice close shot of this tiny butterfly.

As mentioned by Sumball it would have been great if the BG is not so dark. Despite at F13 the butterfly blend into the dark BG .This could be the reason why it does not appear sharp.

Try to strike a balance between aperture with available lighting to get a good BG . Try to experiment with your setup and do not hesitate to use lower F setting to achieve this.

Regards!

SONY A-100 + Tamron 180mm Macro + Minolta 5600HS(D) with Bounce card. Taken handheld.

Photo is cropped...original uncrop below. Too aggressive cropping ?

Thanks for the tips. Will try out more combination when I got the chance to find them again.

Hi Tan,

Whats the setting when taking this shot? F13, shutter speed? ISO?

I thought it is good to shoot with A100 with anti shake?

I think you do not need so high a F-stop. F8 is the sweet point of the T180. Try it. Sometimes, F7.1 or F6.3 is good too. Just try to parallel your lens with the butterfly to get higher DOF, it should be alright.

Anyway, this LGB is small and hence you will need to shoot close to 1:1 to get full frame and DOF is bit diff to control.

Try again and you should be able to make it!

From your original photo, there are too much dead space on the right and bottom.

Go closer...

Oh ya, by cropping, it will give you "very close-up" photo but quality is *ahem*. Normally no more than 20% crop for me to make the compostion better.

Thanks for your tips.

Shutter is 1/125 at ISO 200. Anti shake is great but for macro, it's tough to handle even for anti-shake.

Was shooting progressively nearer and nearer to the butterfly, failed to get closer for a larger frame shot cause flew off, hence the cropping.

Need more practice.....definitely.

I think you can shoot at iso 400, 1/160s and F8. That would give you better shot perhaps.

But then anti shake, u can go as low as 1/60s? haha That will even better.

Will try again when the opportunity arises. Thanks.

AS is great, but at 1/60 there maybe subject motion. There is a slight breeze at that time and did manage to capture non flash shot with tripod but there is subject motion blur.
