There's been alot of discussions on this lens. Perhaps you can do a check to find more info abt it.
On my take, I'm currently using this piece of lens which is usually mounted on my camera most of the time. I rely alot on this lens for my wedding and events photoshoot. Photos taken by this lens is sharp and sweet. The edge over the 17-35 f2.8 is the extra 20mm zoom. No regrets for this great lens! |

The picture quality I can't really complain about. It's got 3 ED elements *AND* 3 aspherical elements no other lens beat this record yet. Nikon spared no expense. The build quality is solid. The f/2.8 max aperture makes flash pix using SB-800 (TTL-BL mode) very sweet due to better capture of ambient light, compared with using lenses with smaller max apertures.
My only complaint is that it looks quite large and threatening, especially with the hood on, which makes it good if you want to impress your clients, but not so good if you are after candid shots, because you tend to invite attention the moment you step into a room with this lens on your camera. Some people say the flare on this lens is quite bad. Personally it has not given me any problems for what I shoot. And of course, there are always people who say you shouldn't buy a DX lens now "in case" Nikon comes up with a full frame DSLR in the next decade or so. |

only prime lens can beat it at that range. i sold my sigma 15-30 to get this lens, so it is smaller or almost the same size as the sigma 15-30 but heavier.
only complain is not that wide. more than 90% of your time you will use it. try Alan Photo they also sell at 2100 or maybe you can wait another month to see how good is the tokina 16-50 |

Yeah, this is one of the important reason why this lens is wanted. IMO, not the sharpness.

it kinda saves the world
and its likely to save yours when you get it I have owned and used both.. and would say that that extra 20mm is rather useful on a cropped sensor the hood is also more suitably built for its focal range and its just 15mm from the 70-200... |

this is a great lens! read about unsharp copies due to quality control but me gives very sharp pics at all aperture. have test it against 35, 50 prime and e quality really doesnt lose out to the 2 primes.
about hte size, if you remove hood and grip the lens w your hand when shooting actually the lens looks pretty small. for events, it covers wide to short tele....now hardly use 12-24 liao....the 17-35 covers well Last edited by surge; 1st November 2006 at 10:55 PM. |

Its a great range to have.
It is razor sharp. Like many have said, its just the size(with hood) and weight. I'm totally impress with the colors produced with this lens. It is so much more vibrant compared to my good old 24-120 VR. It is truly excellent. I give it 5/5 thumbs up |

tas not accurate reference due to the fact that the D200 can easily tune the color output and color mode too.
u might want to add what color mode it was shot in, etc.etc. and even ur WB.
