I'm pretty new here and I've been lurking for quite awhile. Still learning and experimenting with my camera though I got it late last year. (I realise that work and school are no excuse for practising photography.)
I'm just curious to know besides Metz, has anyone used any other flash units with their cameras? Specifically the 350D. I'm trying to get (maybe the word is save desperately) for a 420EX. I've been trying to google and research on flash units of other brands that would be compatible with my camera. Am currently using a friend's Kyocera flash unit. Recycling time is pretty slow but it does the job. Desperately need to get my own because I take a lot of gig/concert shots. Anyone have any recommendations that fall within the budget of a struggling student? ![]() Thank you very very much. |

Same here... 420EX is nice, but no longer in the market. The replacement, 430EX is too expensive, at SGD 465.-.
Any of you have any experience with 3rd party flash? Sigma, vivitar, sunpack, etc? Which one is recommended for SGD 300.- budget? 220EX from Canon cannot bounce, need flash that can tilt and swivel. Thanks! |

if you want topend flash range and do not mind not having ETTL, you can consider a used Nikon SB28 (~$200 used). The auto mode works well and give pretty nice flash exposure. I'm using it as a cheap backup for the 580EX.

I have a Metz 32 Z-1 which can bounce and works well in Auto mode (not TTL). Out of production though
I also have a Sigma 500 DG Super - Cost about half the price of a 580 EX - works well. |
