From the pics found the net, I would think it's fairly usable at iso 400, emergency at iso 800, last resort for iso 1600.

Wow thanks!

It looks like G7, IXUS 850 all can only tahan up to ISO 400 even with DiGiC III. Wonder what subtle difference DiGiC III will have on CMOS.

Actually not true. The noise level for Ixus 850 and 900 Ti is actuallie much better compared to Ixus 60. I have tried printing at A4 on a Pixma iP4200 with the Ixus 850 pictures and the image are quite clean at ISO 400 which I cant on the Ixus 60 without doing some PP first. Though I admit at ISO 800 is for small prints only and 1600 leave it for only EMERGENCY

Saw that is it 1/2.5 in sensor. I would prefer the 1/1.8 sensor. So far, the only PnS that has a larger sensor, optical stabalizer and high ISO exists on the drawing board.

Actuallie hor, the G7 has a large sensor, optical Stabliser and High ISO. In theory in order to have a big sensor, the camera would have to be quite thick and big. That's is y the Sony R1 is so huge.

I'm only comparing PnS cameras. The one I know off that has wide angle, OIS and large sensor is Panasonic LX-1/2. However, high ISO....hmmm. Same with Fujifilm's F30/31. No VR or Mega OIS. Samsung's N7 does not have a 1/1.8 sensor.

BTW, the R1 has an APS-C sensor, same as the Nikon DSLRs.

Actuallie R1 has a smaller sensor compared to Nikon DSLR but a slight difference. 21.5 x 14.4 mm to be precise compare to Nikon's 23.6 x 15.8 mm

If you are comparing PnS, Panasonice LX-1/2 , Fuji F30/31 and Canon G7 are in the same league. All three have similar function with manual setting. In term of noise control at High ISO Fuji does win hands down however it does not have Optical Image Stabliser like the Panasonic and Canon. Panasonice LX-1/2 have a 1/1.65 senor while Canon G7 has a 1/1.8 however in term of noise control, Panasonic fair the worst among these 3 brands though I would agree with you that wide angle sometimes is very important . Btw I did not mention about Samsung in the first place why suddenly talk about it manz. It is not worth mentioning.

Ixus 850's ISO 400 is better than Ixus 30's (3MP) ISO 200 too. Overall, feel it's a winner from Canon.

btw, anyone knows the latest price for it?

Read from dpreview that images taken at 28mm are soft at the edges. Anyone has any experience to share? Thanks.
