Wah! Lucky you... with the current favourable HKD/SGD fx rate, it's time to buy, buy, and more buys!
Amongst all else, Man Shing and Wing Shing in Mongkok. Certified Nikon dealers.

go to Tin Cheung Camera. look for the address from their site.
www.tincheungcamera.com.hk prices indicated online are not up to date. just go there and ask for their prices. very reliable shop. |

Price for the 17-55mm can be as low as S$1950. Wow
When are you going to HK anyway? |

Thanks buddy, but nothing at this moment.
Remember to get a printed receipt together with the 3-piece warranty -- the same look and feel as the 3-piece warranty when you purchased Nikon stuff in S'pore. Only lens apply. The prices in HK are indeed cheaper... but check your goods through. As an aside, Tin Cheung Camera, as recommended by a fellow CSer, is another cheap outlet; but do note that most prices OTC are w/out int'l warranty. For that, you have to generally up 10%. I don't mind buying from them for anything other than lens though. Enjoy your shopping trip. Spend wisely and you'll find that your HK air-ticket is indeed free. Twice over!!!

That's a fact; but not sure if DX lens qualify for the int'l warranty status.

Hi,
I'm currently in HK. Went to a shop in Tsim Sha Tsui (near HonHao Street) called Echo. The uncle wearing specs quoted me HKD 9,400 with int'l warranty. (works out to about SGD1940 if based on 4.85 exch rate). Anyone heard about that shop before? Greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks ! |

It was 4.92 to the Sg dollar last Friday.
Just arrived back from HK an hour ago. Depending on what you are buying, HK has less to offer (a lot of Nikon items are out of stock) and at a higher cost over Japan (surprise surprise). BUT, the 80-200AFD, 70-200VR, 28-70, 17-35 and 17-55 were in abundance everywhere incl Man Shing and Wing Shing. If you are looking for primes like the 84 f1.4, 105 DC - forget it. Even Japan has problems getting hold of these. Surprisingly, in HK, they allow you to check the lenses before you buy, which is good. In Japan, esp Tokyo, they don't normally allow checking which is a bit of a PITA unless you are buying a few big ticket items and can threaten to take your business elsewhere (even then at some places they won't budge even after this i.e. Yodabashi Camera -their loss). And you'd be surprised how poor Nikon QC is these days(esp on the big ticket items like the pro spec lenses). I'd rather pay a bit more in HK and have the ability to check the goods thoroughly before plonking down the moolah. Best places to buy in HK are as already mentioned - Man Shing and Wing Shing in Mongkok. Go early for good service, their service deteriorates later in the day esp at nite. Kinephoto and Photo Scientific on Stanley St in Central were also ok - no bullshit service but expect to pay $200-300HKD more per item. Sometimes, they might have stock of items the others don't and the premium is justified - opportunity cost. Avoid any stores with flashing neon signs, not unless you like being taken for a ride. If the neon lights don't stop you, the ugly ah beng thugs manning the counters in these stores should...unless you are yourself are attracted to these individuals. ![]() Last edited by Tetrode; 31st October 2006 at 12:45 AM. |

Have not heard of it but at that price, it can be had at the more reputable shops.
Grab it man; at that price, with int'l warranty (ensure you get the receipt as well), and if you are allowed to check. Happy shopping!

You have to specify that you want goods with international warranty otherwise they will give you grey items by default (for the same price). |
