Hi guys, my first post here. I've been using Nikon film SLRs but switched to simpler digitals as SLRs are a burden for travels. My Lumix FZ10 has served me well for 3yrs & I'd like an upgrade now. My budget is about S$1.5-8K & I'm about to buy a 400D. The shop told me the kit lens is worth $100, so I'm wondering if I should trade that for a 50mm 1.8 prime lens then buy another more versatile lens. I do a lot of product photography & would like a versatile wide-angle+zoom for travels. Should I buy a $1000+ Canon lens with anti-shake or get a good value lens like Tamron etc.? Or just leave it with the kit set?

I would not buy the 50mm 1.8 yet. Look around this forum and you will realise a lot of almost new lens around for you to buy.
My opinion - get a 17-40mm L USM lens from Canon. Some guys here are selling really cheap. Enjoy shopping! ![]() |

If you intend to replace the kit lens, why not choose to buy the 400D body only?

Anybody heard about the Pentax K10D, is it a worthy choice over this 400D? |

Think you can pass on the kit lens. Get the body and better replacements

skip the kit lens. no need to go through the hassle of selling it later on on BnS.

It seems that u have an option of getting just the body.
If u're into such all-rounder feature, get the 17-85IS. Very versatile focal length.

Second the 17-85IS.
Or, Get the 400D body, with a tamron 18-200. Can do close ups well. See this: http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...3563/index.htm or Sigma's one: http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...3563/index.htm |

may i suggest the sigma 24-70 EX DG Macro?
min focusing distance is 40cm. i wonder if that is sufficient for you? the 50mm prime can be a good all purpose lens. legs are still one's best zoom. hope you will get ur purchases soon, do enjoy shooting!
