Default Powershot S50 CCD Banding

Hi ... a fren of mine have a Powershot S50 with a CCD problem which shows up as "banding" on the images! Any folks here seen this problem! Wonder if this is a known quality issue! (din seem to see any such posting in CS )

If yes, want to go and bang table liao! (hehe ... just like what I did for my A75 and S2IS)

Cheers!

Hi, sorry for the delay, just got this sample from fren. 100% crop.

Any CSers seen this problem either with the S50 or other models?

Cheers!

Thanks gama!

Yes, she bought to Canon and was quoted about $300 but parts no stock! Then was given option to trade-in to other Canon models for only $80 less the RRP of the chosen model!

Quite bad deal.

Hoping to hear from brothers here if there is a known problem... I guess most likely not then

$300!! that's expensive, well I also just sent out mine to Canon to fix the sliding door few months ago and they charged me $80.

There was reported problem on CCD made by Sony last year/2 years ago which end up in recall, but can't remember if Canon's camera were affected. Maybe not, since I remember I wasn't worried about my camera. My dad's was affected but he was using Nikon.

Anyway, you could run google on this and see if certain Canon's models were affected, just to make sure. All the best.

The CCD problem product list has been modified, S60 was added to the list, but not S50

Hieee, thanks for all your responses and tips.

Just talked to Canon. They cannot do anything more than repair it or trade in the spoilt cam since this model is not affected by the "recall" due to CCD problem.

Cheers!

I have the same "banding"problem, "sliding door" problem, fading dial icons problem on my S-50. I have been a great advocate for the Powershot S series until the banding problem appears.
I hope problems will not appear on my 20D otherwise I would have to post quite a lot of WTS for my canon lenses....
