Just got my hands on a CANON MVX200i ..now I need to get the media (MINI-DV) ...where is the best place to buy such thingy ? BTW,any1 own one of this ? any tips I should know ? or 'problem' I should be aware of ?

Infact, almost any consumer electronics shop is selling, pricing should be between $5~7, I usually buy in the bulk of 60, thus I have no idea roughly how much it cost when in single.
Should you want a good headstart, you can join the free talks provided by some experience forumers here or some online classes. Like Photography, video skills is all about practice, it is always easy to understand the theory behind it.

The cheapest and always low price, 2nd Level Sim Lim Towers, G & G, look for Mr Ong. Good price when you take whole strip (20 or 30 tapes). About $4 each. Better than Mustafa.

He supplies all tapes (all sorts includes BETA and HDCAM) for my production company.

Try not to get the sony tapes. I've had a couple that hasn't lasted past 2-3 years. My panasonic ones are still fine.

my 5 cents worth.

If budget permits, use professional grade tapes. The Panasonic "Master" MiniDV are like $6.00 +.

They are dry and do not damage your camera's head, reducing the need also to clean tape head to maybe about 10 seconds every month only.

Consumer grade miniDv tapes are about $4.00 +. Considering the effort to capture footage, better quality tapes are not that much more. At least habitually export edited footages to quality to professional grade tapes.

regards.

Working in a production house, we had used Sony tapes for the last 10 years, as well as the Panasonics. It seems the consumer Panasonics are less reliable while their Master series are more preferred than Sony because of the cheaper price.

As long as you don't reuse the tapes, and they are kept in a dry cabinet (like we do), they can last for years. We still kept raw footages more than 10 years ago on Sony as well as Panasonic consumer and Master mini DVs and full DVs.

So I guess it's down to preference and how big is your bank account.

Hi AhV, Alan Photo and similar companies sells MiniDV tapes at $4.00 or $4.50 each, GST included. Normally you need to buy 5 or 10 to get that price, but that's only 10 tapes giving 10 hours...

I bought from Lords before and it was about $4 for the Sony

I read from somewhere before and I myself experienced it, do not swap the brand in the mid of the event or your might get snowflakes momentary because the recording head needs to adapt to the new lubricant in the different make......if you have to, do a head cleaning first
