Anyone can give good advice which is better? Nikon D2Xs or Nikon D200? Thinking of getting either one, but can't decide on which one. Please advise. Thanks!

Needles to say that the D2Xs is Nikon's current flagship DSLR... easy decision if money no object. depending on your usage (pro or weekend shooter) be warned the D2Xs is a heavy beast to go lug around especiallly with those fast zoom lenses!

Thanks. I want something to last. Was reading that the two has alot of similarities, and comparable, so which is more worth the money, and of course the weight of D2Xs is a factor. And D2Xs has considerable poorer control over the noise in 'shadow' areas of the picture taken above 400 ISO? Just pondering and of course, need to consider the lens as well. sigh. i can't find any article that does a good feature by feature comparison of the two.

u using the camera to make a living or use the camera for fun??? By getting a D2X you have to justify the purchase of it (unless u are a millionair).

just a hobbyist. not pro. yea D2Xs body is about 8k right? which is about 2.5 times more than D200. i do some sports photography and D2Xs has 8fps and the buffer is alot better than D200

And if you work on sports, then look at the D2Hs. But if you are just a hobbyist, then I'd suggest you spend your money on a D200 with grip first. Get the hang of it before you decide on plonking your money on a better cam. By then the D200 can be your backup body. |

Check out DPreview and they will give you a detail review of the 2. If you have the $$ the get a D2x, you wouldn't be posting this question here. ![]() |

It is like comparing Merc S-class vs E-class, which is better?
The D2Xs is the flagship of Nikon, and the pros would not pay those kind of money for nothing. Last edited by billpepsi; 26th October 2006 at 05:40 PM. |

Do a google search, "d200 dpreview" and "d2xs dpreview" see which one suits you best!
Then of course, go try them out. I think D200 willl be good enough for you for now. |

I never assume i am a pro. yea so what if i am a green? and of course i did check out dpreview and they never did give a definitive comparison of the two and they use canon dslr as part of their reviews on D200. And so what if i got the money to get D2Xs, does that i spend 6.8k for something i could have gotten in a newer D200 which offers the same? wouldn't it be prudent to ask for advice from the experts in this place? if you got no comments, then perhaps, please do not contribute to another whole stack of unnecessary blabberings.

Thanks! I am keen on a D200, at least it is cheaper and lighter than D2Xs. The only problem i am afraid is D200's handling of noise level? it was one of the main points in depreview for d200 in the cons. At least i think the noise problem isn't huge on my D70. |

D200 has very good noise control compared to other models. I wouldnt worry about it. Noise isnt really an issue if you expose correctly.

coming from D200 to D2Xs, i couldn't be more happier with it. The low light focusing ability & accuracy of MultiCAM 2000 is heaven sent. Nothing D200 does it better than D2Xs other than the price.

D200 is better in terms of noise control. D2X/D2Xs has noticeably more noise in shadow areas.
