Default Fuji S5600 owners' opinions

I would like to hear owners' opinons on the S5600, especially on AF and continuous AF performance.

Also on anything else good or bad about it.

The S5600's AF does a very impressive job. It focuses well on low-light situations and almost never hunts during AF. Only on very rare occasions did it hunts during the max-end of the telephoto range. As for S-AF and C-AF, the C-AF is useful because it is always focused, but it does drains the battery faster in this mode. I personally prefer S-AF mode.

Thanks for the opinion.

How about its macro abilities? Do you notice JPEG compression effects like its predecessor the S5000?

I'd wait for the 6500. I tried it out in Japan last week and it is much better than the 5600. I was about to get the 5600 until I heard about the 6500. The Face detection thingamejig actually works a treat - great for when you need to hand your camera over to strangers (so that they can take pics of you) w/o the camera Auto focussing on the background.

The 6500 has a manual zoom which is much nicer to use than the mechanised zoom on the 5600. The 6500's screen is also larger and of a higher res. The build quality of the 6500 is similar to that of my old D70s i.e. not bad.

But if you still want the 5600, the Camera House in Paramatta is selling them for $346AUD with a Fujifilm 512 Mb Xd card and Fujifilm 4xAA Ni-MH 2300 Batteries and charger (value $125). Which makes the price of the camera $221AUD. A steal.

I assume you refer to the 6500fd.

Actually I was considering the Canon S3 IS but found the Fuji 5600 very similar except for the lack of IS. I believe I could live without the IS, and hence spend less. If I was going to spend more, I probably think of Fuji 6500fd, or maybe revert to Canon S3 IS.

With or without the xD card and batteries, I think the Fuji S5600 is already a very good price. It's almost nuts if anyone don't want to consider it.

Just a long shot, anyone knows if Fuji 5600 or Fuji 6500fd can do infrared without hotspots?
