Default 35-70mm F2.8 worth considering?

Hi,
Would like to seek advice from senior members about this lens. You think is it worth getting it for ~SGD650? If yes why do you think so? If not, why?

Thank you!

I am using D80 and intend to use this lens for normal shoot and portraiture.

Its a good lens with an excellent reputation.
Its size is handy.
Only thing you should consider is how you plan to use it. The focal length limits the use a bit on DSLRs. It will be good for portraits, candid shots etc.

Spend the money based on your desired usage.

For portrait why not consider a 50mm f1.8?
cheap and wide aperture.. f2.8 and f1.8 quite abit of difference..
If you have the moolah.. 50mm f1.4

I would find abit not wide enough as on 1.5x CF its 53mm..
unless you alr have something wide to cover that range.
