Default What batteries you use for SB 800 and SD8A

Hi there.

Just curious about what batteries you guys are using. Have been considering rechargeables for quite a long time but always don't like the idea of buying 30 pieces (3 sets of 10) at one shot. Also, is there a good charger which can charge 10 batteries at one go?

To anyone using Alkalines/rechargeables, which brand do you normally use?

http://www.eastgear.com/shop/product...roducts_id=718

You can go for Maha Powerex MH-C801D Eight Cell 1-Hr Charger + 8 x 2700AA
in the above link from EastGear.
You should be able to get extra packs of 4pcs at $15.00 if you neg with them.

i use both types

depends on usage

SB800 only use rechargables
for heavy duty work (+SD8A) then it is Alkalines

Thanks Don for the recommendation. Too bad it only takes 8 batteries at once. It'll be more troublesome if i want to charge all 30 batteries at once.

Is there any charger that takes in 10 batts at once?

All rechargeable batteries will become very hot when quick-charging. If it's not hot, then better check the charger. Or that your battery is faulty cannot charge liao.

Y waste so...... much $$ on rechargeable battery??? Follow me,use quantum battery 1+ for ur SB800. Recharge time much much faster & even more economic... Dun need to charge them so often.. 1 time investment can lasts u for 5 years @ least. I have used mine for more than 5years.. I did post a thread regarding 1 guy selling it from the B&S last forum under other accessory. U can call him to check for the price & buy from him..

That is the best charger liao IMHO.
Or you can get 4 set of the chargers and you can charge 32 batt at 1 go..

Wah lau...bro, a new quantum battery plus cable will easily cost $1000, while a SD8A cost about $250. Plus 40 rechargable batteries is $150 more... this brings the total to $400. I find it hard to see the savings....

Yes there is, using it in R/C, but should be the same for DSLR.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Yeah, had thought of Quantum before but it's kind of big and still pretty expensive. Maybe will keep in view on the suggested charger...it seems expensive too.

For those of you who still use alkalines, do you have any preferred brand?

its normal for battery to get hot during charging especially if u r using quite charger, (constant current charging). when battery is fully charged, some charger will switch to trickle charge, by then, it will not be that HOT liao. get a Sanyo charger, quite good, I've been using for pass 3+ years liao, never fail me.

I've just switched from Sanyo to Powerex and I am very pleased with the switch. You can leave the Powerex in the SB800 for quite a long time and they stay charged. They don't get too hot whilst charging either. Would whole-heartedly recommend them.

Never use (buy) alkaline rechargeable batteries. This old technology still exists but after few cycles they have no juice, plus it is a dangerous technoly (risk of explosion, any big brands use this technology).
Better use NiMh AA batteries. Now if time, technology, quality are on top of your requirements, buy Varta 15 minute charger. The price just dropped ($39 for a 2 batteries charger incl. 2 AA). 2 extra AA 15 minute = $11.90. But i saw they have 4 batteries charger too ($59) .
So a quick calculation: SB800 = 4 batteries. in 30 minutes your batteries are ready (fully charged) to use, with the 2 batteries cahrger or 15 minute with the 4 batteries charger.
Less than the time you need to take a shower and dress !!!
I use it since 1.5 years now, (SB600), and it is perfect. It is always in my bag when i travel, it is compact . i know other brands claim 15 minute too. But have a look on the back side of the blister then you will see it is not (minimum of 25min for 2 batteries only).
As written above, very fast charging means hot batteries (very hot, ouch !!).

With this charger quality is there. They can charge AAA too. And if you have other rechargeables batteries from other brands no problem (or Varta but not 15 minute),then the charging time will 1 one. (Which is fast too).
