Default Myanmar OCT 2006

We went to Myanmar for a Nature Photo trip.

We went off the beaten track and noted .. life is
very harsh there. The economic embargo really
affects the people. Disel is US$5.00 1 gallon limited
to 2 gallons a day.

1 Tin can scoop of BROKEN Low quality rice is 450 Kyats (US$0.50 cents) .. not cheap.
(Yangon)

The local Bus - 100-150 Kyats per ride depending on distance. (Bagan)

Temples pasted with GOLD LEAF contributed by the people and the ruling party.

Transport is mostly by animal power and on foot. (Bagan)

No Bridge.. we must do a riverbed crossing to reach Mount Popa Resort, when it
rains the riverbed becomes a river! Normally it does not rain a lot in
November - December . (BAGAN)

Electric Power is limited outside Bangan and Yangon.. you can go for miles
without seeing any lights and in the big trading citys like BAGO, only 2 or 3
florescent lamps are seen and candles rule.

Road conditions are very poor outside of the main cities. Average speed
can be as low as 40 KMH or less due to all the large potholes.

People are generally nice. The Language Barrier is very difficult
to surmount unless you have an english speaking guide.

Best Times: November - December - because of Cool Weather and
Blue Skies for photography.

We rode in our own private VAN. The Travel was
a private guided tour by
Travel Agency: WoodLands Travels
http://www.woodlandtravels.com

They respond very well by email.

You can view this mountain peak temple where people climb up really high from the
Popa Mountain resort.

Most tourist try to get the sunset.. but its very hard when you have rainy
occasions. You need to research which month - November - December to go
for the sunset. with clear skys.

During October, it rains at night mostly

The construction seems to be of Bricks laying on top of each other , it is a building
stabalized by Gravity only.

People also use FIRE to burn the leftover plants or to clear land. There are many farms
there ..Cheaper to use fire than other means.
