hi all,
I'm using a 20D and i intend to get a flash for her. I'm stuck when i'm deciding which one to get. I've tried searching the past thread but was not able to get any clue. - How do i guage which flash to get? - Do i have to like agar agar estimate the range/distance of the flash coverage or wat kind of shoot i'm doing? - When i went down to CP they told me to get a 580EX. Does a 20D really need a 580EX or i can just make do with 420EX? - Would u guys recomment a 420EX or a 430EX? Thats all for now... Selamat Hari Raya Happy Holiday to all CSers... |

20D can take any EX series flash.
I am using the Sigma DG500 - works fine. Last edited by Russ; 24th October 2006 at 05:32 PM. |

Do note that if you want to maximise E-TTL II auto flash compensation, you might want to use a EX series speedlight.

few months back i was the one enforcing the idea that ETTL-II was in the camera rather than the flash, of course i know that only EX-series flashes support ETTL-II
calebk said "you might want to use EX", so the point i was getting across is that "IF you can still find EZ flashes" in response to calebk's comment -> point to make is that there's actually no need to specifically state EX flashes cos almost all new canon flashes in the market are all EX flashes. use of the english language to bring out a point in an indirect way... ![]()

If i not wrong 420EX does not support ETTL-II while the 430EX do support the ETTL-II interface which comes with the 20D. Unless you need the extented range or the more focusing point of the 580EX, the 430EX will do exceptionally well with your camera. 430EX has up to 9 focusing point which is suitable for 20D/30D/350D/400D.

I have a question regarding the AF system.
If you utilise bounce flash (non-direct flash), does the AF point matter? |

ETTL-II is IN-CAMERA, not in-flash
