I suggest you should go softer on that lady.
All in all, whether one charges cheaper or dearer isn't important. What's more important is the overall education of the clients in knowing how to differenciate between a pro's job and an amateur's one. Also, it depends on what they're looking for.
If as a client, what I need is some cheapo job and I don't mind the quality, and I'm on a budget, then go for that kind of pricing. Of course, if I'm having the budget and would require more, I'd go for a professional quote. Of course, I must admit a lot of clients out there do no understand such stuff. To a lot of them: I want cheap and good and quality and quantity, and I don't think photography works this way.
Why would I need help? Mind boggling.
Educate the whole of singapore.
Time is $$$, and pro don't wanna waste time.
$$$ is time, and many here fails to realise that.
shoot for wedding portfolio???
shd be shooting and charging and improving the same time.
4 to 6hrs at $200/- is exploitation, why? u buy camera, flashes etc, and go shoot, transports, after shoot, go back and process, and after that meet couple, then go back again? how much time wasted??? u calculate. then if fail to get decent shot, ppl complain, u want that?

actually, if one is new, 4 hours at 200 seems pretty ok if we are talking about events wat.... tt works out to be erhm....50/hour? hahahahha
Is charging more and producing crap shots more important than not worry about charges and just do a good job required? Instead of discussing how to raise the bar photographically, some of the guys here are constantly worrying about who is undercutting who, who charges more and why charge so little. Exactly why our local scene is filled with half past six "pros" and good but "underexposed" amatuers trying to make clients see their work.
Time is money? For those money-minded, sure. So you shoot quickly, take the money and run and pass them substandard work? Is that how people measure their work nowadays? By time spent and renumeration?
U are living in a well that cover with muds which u will never climb up, why, cos u never try.
see more works from local pros, alot never advertise, but produce good works.
Pros never worry abt undercutting to such an extend my dear, cos those amatiers undercutting most likely will die faster. Cos they never earn enough to upgrade, repair and sustain in the bussiness.
Pros are more worry abt raising the standards of customers, amatuers. Why, local pros producing good works are under paid, compare to other countries. Not enough respects to the pros cos local ppl standards of appreciation to what the pros do are too low compare to other countries.
If u think amatuers are good, seriously, by all means go ahead, cos u got the ideas of all pros are lousy, can only produce lousy pics, whereas amatuers gives excellence pics.
I suspect u must be the lady looking for $200 photographer for 6 hrs work.
To u, pros is the kinda ppl who earns a living shooting, wrong, pros are the ones who keep on improving, making sure works are always excellence even in foul weather.
