Default Macro.. how to do it?

Sorry... I saw the pictures posted here and got interested in macro photography...

Just one problem.. I hav not much of an idea how to start..

Firstly... what are the equipment to have?
Secondly... how to take the photos? Don't you have to go real close to them to take? They usually get frightened away isn't it?
Thirdly... any other tips?

currently what type of camera do you have? prosumer digicam, compact digicam or dSLR?
then after that only we can discuss further.
thanks

Hi,

i used to take macro shots in my lab when i was studying with a canon camera built for macro. but now i jus use an extension tube to do my macro shots. for the really close life objects, you might want to use a telephoto lens with macro, so that you can shoot from further away and achieve some nice close-ups. I am really an amateur in all these, so i might be wrong

regards

Some links to guide you along....

Good for canon user... Canon FAQ http://www.livingroom.org.au/photolo...hotography.php

Look for the work "Macro" in the artical, explain some of the confusion on the use of "MACRO" on today lens.

Lots of info on macro photography, look under "General" section for general topics on macro photography...

great, same here
just my two cents- following are the gadgets currently i use for my shooting:
1, Canon EF 100 f/2.8 USM Macro lens
2. Extension Tubing Kenko
3. SPeedlite 430 EX

That tamron 18-200 can be used to shoot macro if you do not have plan to purchase macro lens in near future- couped it with some extension tubes may give you good picture. Regarding extender, in my opinion probably not very appropriate (please correct me gurus out there if i am wrong). Reason: with a 1.4 EX ET, we will reduce the amount of light collected at the sensor, and i think the f stop may have to be increased by at least 1 stop.
THe other possible problem would be interference with the AF system, but probably this will not be a big problem if you do manual focusing in macros as prefered by my gurus of macro.

If you want to buy macro lens, the tamron 90SP Macro is another alternative to the Canon's one.

Thanks
Just my two cents.

One thing you may want to check first. Do you know anyone with Macro lenses? Go play with their stuff first. Macro lenses, macro flashes etc are not cheap, so you should first check if you like doing this stuff. It may take a while to get the shots that are posted here, so do not be dissapointed and keep on trying. Also, what do you plan to shoot? Tiny insects or bigger things like butterflies and dragonflies?

Like newbie350 said, Tamron 90 macro, good stuff!

50mm reverse, extension tubes, 90mm Tamron, 100mm canon or 180mm Tamron macro lenses.

In that order in terms of pricing as well. hehehe.

Hope to see your shots here.

the cheapest to get you going is to get a filter for your current lens.
A better investment is to get one set of extension tube, which cost around $200.
They allow real close of your subject, best buy if you really into it, can use on any lens.
