Cost is definitely a lot less. You can purchase it in many camera shops and eBay. In terms of performance, it's hit and miss. I bought two copies of a third party battery. One is still operational and lasts as long as the original in use after each charge. The other copy died after half a year of use.

Get the sterlingtek batteries.. I've got 2. They cost alot less, and both of them quite a bit longer than the original.

I got from East Gear. Until now, finds no problem with it. Except the lifespan is abit shorter than my original one. Cost only $20+ during March IT show.

Using the Camera Devices one from East gear, no problems thus far, but so far only one use. Battery life is longer than the original by a tad. Will be bringing it to Japan come year end with the original battery for more intensive usage. I paid 28.50 or something like that.

Sterlingtek ones are the best ones I know of for cheaper 3rd party options. Last long, reliable and the battery life is much better than Canon ones even after months of use.

I bought 2 recently from a shop at Sim Lim. For 30 bucks. It says 1500mAh. Technically twice more than the original (720mAh).
I have yet to test it to maximum capacity.
