Thread: Bad Checkpoint! Bad !

    Default Bad Checkpoint! Bad !

I really love to use Changi airport. Efficient, smooth, nice environment, got all kinds of distraction around you to make the time go by. This is by far my favourite airport!

But when it come to the woodlands checkpoint, all I remember are : the messy queues, the smoke for the exhaust pipes, the armed guards and the cameras in your face.

Today as I was coming back from KL, I went through the usual process. And both on my way out and back in, I noticed that the malaysian side was faster to clear the same amount of vehicles.

What a laugh we had in the car looking at the magnificent and imposing building on the SG side that was slower than the messy old and dirty neighbour checkpoint.

Like they say: "looks can be deceiving".

It depends on how you view at it.
As for Singapore, they are checking to prevent :

    1. potential terrorists
    2. potential human, cigarette, weapon, vcd, food, GST, etc smugglers
Just look on the good side, the immigration is helping our country's account as well as the security aspects. I read somewhere that potential losses from smuggling can amount to hundred of millions if they are not doing what they are doing now.

I used to spend my monies there once a week but for the past 5 yrs, i probably drove thru not more than 5 times.....

Another point is to serve as a hindrance so that Singaporean will have second thoughts about spending their money else where.

If you think that the other side is doing a better job than us just because they clear the ppl and vehicles faster and have less jams, have you ever wonder why? From the look of it, it appears that the other side are very efficient while we are slow and inefficient that's why the jam on our side. Appearance in such a case can be deceiving. While we are quite thorough in our job and the end result is usually the slow moving traffic, the other side is usually less stringent in their check and at times not carrying out the proper immigration and customs procedures. I have on many occasions observed the other side's immigration personnel just waving the My motorists on without checking when they just showed their passports. Many a times, they don't even bother to scan our passport / immigration card when we enter / exit My. Criminals can exploit such loopholes. Drivers entering JB with taxable goods can easily avoid paying taxes by using the green lanes where they don't conduct checks. Try that in Sg. At the end of the day, I think we should be thankful that our frontline ppl are doing a good job to prevent cross boundary crimes and terrorism. Traffic jam at the causeway is a small price to pay. Of course, the govt must find ways to ease the jam but definitely not at the expense of relaxing on our checks.

since singapore makes a better "firewall", malaysia just go loose loh. What for need two "firewalls"? dun think criminals will climb out from the sea onto the causeway.

anyway, if scared jam, can go tuas. but then again, sometimes tuas get jammed pretty badly too despite its higher pricing

Although a Singaporean, I still think that it is not right to make that sentence.
Messy? Was your car among the messy jam?
Old? Well, maybe the building is old...nothing wrong too.
    Dirty? Care to explain?

You have your side of story. What time did you come out to Singapore on 1st day of the week - Monday?

Although woodlands side is cheaper no need pay toll fees but if coming back from KL or anywhere using the NSH I will direct use the 2nd link for faster clearance. If really wish to use woodlands, I will make sure timing is not in the peak hours.

Maybe you all won't have that laugh in the car if use 2nd link, know the timing or call the checkpoint hotline in advance

Everyone should know by now that our super-efficient government CAN solve any problems ..... it's depend largely on whether they WANT or NOT ....
For eg ... in the past, there were so many reasons not to have a casino .... but overnight, there are so many compelling reasons why we NEED not 1, not 2 but maybe more casino in our little island, in the coming years .

    Indeed, looks can be deceiving

Do you agree you have been deceived?

Will you still laugh again the next time you go through the checkpoint?

Security? Yes ! But the passport check is the same on both side! The jam was before the passport check and not at the customs that was absolutely empty!

I do not think that the checking procedure is to be discussed here.

What appeared to me to be the reason for the jam was the number of lanes open on the SG side compared to the Jb side. Really got bored while waiting on the SG side looking at those sharply dressed armed guards.

To avoid jams, I left on saturday at 5.00 am and got back on monday at 1.20 pm. Both case, jam in sg.

I can easily imagine that it is to deter the people from going to spend their money elsewhere. Then why not also slow down changi a bit? Cos it is a more selective crowd?

Dominator, do not get ofended. I am only talking about the condition of the buildings. The one in Jb is in the middle of a construciton site. It is also blackened by the fumes of the vehicles. Things that you do not see on the other side. I am not making a judgement here, merely a constatation. But although it was in such a state of conservation, i enjoyed more going through the jb side then the other one just because it was done faster.

About the expected time to spend waiting on Sg side compared to Jb side? Yes it was not as expected. I was expecting at least the same processing time for the same amount of vehicles. That is all!

I am not discussing the procedures which are not to my discretion.

Will I still laugh again? I hope not ! This will means that SG will impress me once more! And it did in many occasions.

Hey reliance ? Do you work there? If yes, I 'll drop by to say hello.

Well, be thankful, buddy. You should've seen Heathrow Airport and CDG Airport of France.

Processing time obviously has something to do with whether they carry out the correct procedures. As I mentioned in my earlier thread about some My vehicles being waved on by just showing their passport, does that hasten the flow of the vehicle queue? Many a times, they don't even scan my immigration card and just gave an exit stamp on the passport. Does this incorrect procedures expedite my clearance? I agree with you that the number of lanes opened to vehicular traffic is also a contributing factor.

Thread starter, you very cute. When we go to malaysia, our custom was super fast than their side. So, vice-versa, when we come back from malaysia, of course local side is slower as to have more checks etc... la. Common sense mah.

    There is obviuously a misunderstanding.

Changi is to my understanding and personnal experience the BEST AIRPORT bar none!

I am thankfull everytime I use its services !

This is not about the customs services. The space between the passport check and the customs was empty. Completely empty ! The custom clearance has been fast and efficient.

So I guess the bottle neck was obviously not the customs check, as there was absolutley no queue there.

The entire block of cars was on the causeway before the passport check. (Same when we went out of SG. The queue was before the passport check)

Once the passeport check reached, the whole process was as fast and courteous as the other side. No complain there!

It is just that to my impression, there were probably less lanes open to clear the vehicles through !

Frankly speaking e jam is caused by us singaporeans who wan cheap of everything. Why blame e checkpoint wen we just hav to go over there to makan, shop n every other things cuz we wanna save a few cents.

We wan cheap of everything n we wan checkpoint to be clear of people. It will never happens. Why complain of something wen e very cause of it is us. Makes me wonder. Wanna avoid e jam just dont go over. Simple. Problem solve. If not live with it.

Frankly speaking singaporeans can never b satisfied, if queue is moving fast n it just happens we do let in some unwanted visitors which creates problems in sgp, we will qs wat is the custom people doing. We blame them for not being efficient. Yet wen they take longer time to screen visitors we blame tat they are too slow. Well u cant have e best of both world. So till we start to be thankful with wat we have we will continue to complaints all e time.

As mentioned below, the jam is caused by immigration side, not the customs side.
