Default The Eyes have it

Hi folks,

This is my third or fourth posting on the macro thread... After the previous feedback on making sure the bugs' eyes are sharp, I have Bi Guan Xiu Lian and after many tries, these were from today's shoot. C&C most welcome. Please also let me know which compositions work well for you. Thanks.

All pics taken with S3IS and Raynox250. PP mostly the following - Crop. Gamma, Saturation adjustments, Resize and some sharpening.

1) Patterns

2) Peekaboo

3) I see you...

4) I see you again

Thanks! Any comments on what you like about it and why you prefer it over the other 3? I am still relatively new to macros and feedback is most welcome so that I can improve.

I like the compo and the sharpness for #4 then #3.
Both are equally good, and #3 has better and nicer background.

Just my preference.

Cheers!

A few comments:

Focus:
You got the focus on the eyes and thats good, but your Apeture is too large F3.5? At such magnification, one would need as much DOF as possible, so go for the max F8 for your case (I think.) You will lose light, so have to compensate with flash, OR, tripod mount....longer exposure...provided subject stay still.

The spider shot has potential, but you can see that its palp (2 green things in front) are blur due to the shallow DOF. Similarly, for the DF eyes, not sure if more DOF will see more detail of the eyes. Another reason could be that you have not got the eye at the sweet spot of the raynox.....its a very thin area, so once you get it right...it will be very sharp.

Composition:
#1 does not work for me. Pics from the rear seldom works, unless its really something unique.
#2 is more of artistic take
#3, 4 is nice frontal shots. Eyes in focus. Increase the DOF to get more of the spider.

Thanks for the very specific and useful feedback tchuanye, I will take note for my future shots.
