Smile Opportunities for people with disabilities in the photography profession

Hi everyone, thank you for taking time off to read this post.

My company PERIDOTPIX has been invited by SNEF, MCYS and NCSS to participate in focus group discussions to gain knowledge of employers' needs and requirements in employing persons with disabilities.

The Enabling Masterplan 2007-2011 is a joint organisational effort between the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the National Council of Social Services (NCSS). The Employment Sub-Committee is currently reviewing and seeking to enhance employment services for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

As I will be meeting the committee on 20 Oct 2006 after lunch, I like to invite you to kindly post your suggestions for employment opportunities within the photography profession for our fellow Singaporeans. For suggestions that are posted after the meeting, I will still put up the suggestions to the committee. So please keep the comments coming in and let us do our part for the community.

    Thank you.

    Yours sincerely,

    Jason Tan

To kick off the discussion, we thought that we could train a group to specialise in digital post processing in terms of touch up, montage, colour correction, layout of coffee table books etc.

Do let us know what you think.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

Good idea thou... but then again, it would differ from individuals to individuals and also the perception of their approach, cos DI is a skill that takes time to develop.

I'm not in this line, but i guess it would be nice if they really learn PS, Curves etc... learn some simple lighting and product shoot. or maybe learn Illustrator and do advertisement layout and such. Or do up web gallery for customers. (think i better zip b4 i reveal alot of potential business opportunities...)

well... i tink first of all, it would be useful to generate a list of things people actually do in the photography industry before seeing if you can slot them in based on whether if they are suitable for the job at hand?

    1) Photographer
    2) Assistant
    3) D.I. Artist
    4) Producer
    5) ....................

Hi guys, thanks for the inputs. Really appreciated. Please keep the suggestions coming. Guess if there are aspects of the photography workflow that you rather see outsourced, then they might present opportunities for them too.

One opportunity is providing etching out services for product shots...that is, using paths to draw the outline of product shots...essential for many product shots for product catalogues...

I'm sure many DI people would agree with me...its a tedious thing to do but not difficult to do, or to learn to do...the per unit cost for doing each image is not high, but at volume can add up fast
