Morning,
So if the Leica lens aren't made in Germany, will they be of lower quality? I know this argument will go along the lines of Vios/Altis made in Thailand instead of Japan etc etc... Seems like lesser and lesser photography stuff are made in Japan anymore... everyone is using places like China, Thailand etc etc for their factories... Just thinking out loud... ![]() |

The old Leicas were made in other places, including Canada. Most Leica enthusiasts will say that there was no difference because the factories were built according to Leica specs. The Panasonic lenses were built with, I think, the Panasonic factory (most probably not the Cosina factory).
Some early tests have shown that there is not much difference with the Oly 14-54 and the Leica 14-50, just the way the designer gives preferences to bokeh or sharpness at the wides, etc. The reason I went for Oly (not C or N) is for their lenses (not the body ). If Oly came up with a 45mm or a 25mm, definitely I would get them also. Sensor design is moving very fast and is will be sooner or later that advances come to a crawl, like lens designs. |
