but it can read new Lexar 80x CF card. Is this normal? My normal speed Sandisk CF card was bought a few years ago and still works on my Nikon coolpix. Or is it that E-1 only accepts higher speed CF cards?
Thanks in advance. |

Try formating it on the E-1 before use.

Forgot to mention that I've tried the followings but to no avail:
1. Using E-1's format function and still shows "card error". 2. Re-format using Windows XP and still shows "card error" when the card is inserted in. 3. Re-format using Disk Utility in Mac OS also cannot. 4. After all these, no problem using the card in my trusty Nikon Coolpix. Strange ????? |

Different cards have compatibility issues with different cameras, even if both cards and cameras are perfectly fine.
It's touch and go, trial and error lind of thing. |

Just bought a Lexar Pro 133x CF card and guess what, if shows "card error" again! Tried all types of formatting and still cant work. Is there something wrong with my E-1? It is a factory re-conditoned one from Olympus USA. Probably will check with them or return for exchange. Sian.... Thanks. |

this could be problems with some corrupted files. try to erase everything using your computer and then format.
if not you can format with dos. if you using mac. i dunnoe how as i have never use mac before. this is my experience, i use a sp350 on a photo trip. one of the photo taken was saving when i accidentally off my camera. since then the camera always propmpt card error. but i use the above method to cure the card. you might wants to unhide all hidden files in the card before doing the erase. i dunnoe if nikon has written a hidden file in the card too. |

according to my exprience i cannot format my card on the camera when i have a corrupted file there. formatting with your pc does not mean the camera recognise your card. there is some file missing in the card if the card is formatted by pc. |

Just an update.
Got a replacement E-1 from Oly USA and it reads all my CF cards well. So confirmed it was a defective camera. Good service from Oly USA though. Thanks for all the help. |

I'm from Canada, eh. For me I was looking for forums to join when I first bought my E-300 and this forum had a lot of technical questions that went unanswered, so I wanted to help out fellow E-system users and keeping the answers in my head at the same time.

What are you saying? Trial and error? Which camera do you have? Trial and error only if you use fake or no-brand cards. With Sandisk it should work unless something is wrong with the card or the camera.

I second that.
A CF card is a CF card is a CF card. Either a contact pin broke or the CF card itself has issues.
