    Default Write Protect Smartmedia Card

    Hi All,

Just to share , (been getting email from friends asking me on this matter).
The smartmedia cards for digital camera has a write protect mechanism which is under utilised.

    Look at the card :

    ----------------------
    | xxxxxxxxxxxxxx|
    | xxxxxxxxxxxxxx|
    | xxxxxxxxxxxxxx|
    | x(_ ) xxxxxxxxx
    |xxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
    |xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    | xxxxxxxxxxxxxx|
    \************|

You will notice a circular indent on the card. This is actually the write protect "notch". How to write protect??
You would need aconductive material (thin one) to place it on this location. I would think of the best example to be aluminium foil.
Grab some aluminium foil and have a double sided tape stick on its back. Then cut the foil to the side of the circular notch.

Now to use it. Take what ever photo or store any IMPORANT data
into your smart media card. When ready, peel off the aluminium
foil and stick it on the notch.

If you look carefully on your readers/writers, there is actually two
pins which will be aligned to this notch which in this case shorted will prevent any writing to the card.

FOREWARNED!!!: Make sure the foil is properly pasted and thin enough to avoid getting jammed in the reader.....

Disclaimer: I personally tested it, worked great!!!...but remember do it at you own risk!!!.

    Regards,
    me
