Personally, I find the glare in #1 a little too distracting. Somehow, it takes away the attention from the school.
I love #2 though. I love the way the sunrays are captured and how the rays lead down to the school of fish below. Nice shot! ![]() |

Woo, I prefer it in colour. More post-processing can be done, in my view. For one, the glare is too overwhelming and attention-seeking, drags the focal away.

Wow... I agree with Slivester. I prefer it in colour too! You can actually see the texture and depth of the photo better in colour..

maybe the shadows are too strong in the B&W version? I'm leaning towards the B&W one..have a thing for B&W shots.
great stuff, btw! love the drop-off...wonderful nudibranchs in 5m of water..could've spent an hour there! |

If you could tear away from the glare in #1 for a moment (maybe like you said, stop down 1 or 2 stops more), and perhaps had the opportunity to tilt the camera upwards a tinny bit more (and leave a little less black space below), then the dynamics of the #1 would make it the overwhelming winner.
My viewpoint is purely from the dynamics of the school. Technically I agree with all the gurus here that #2 is technically superior. But you can't beat the dynamism in the first shot. Sayang... The last one is nicer in bw, IMHO. But I love the breakaway... And I can't do any of these as my widest is 28mm, and my strobe is tinny, and Bali may be too cold, current too strong.... sobb... Good job, bro. |
