I believe most of the problems experienced with the xD cards were when they were read by card readers, some of which are not fully compatible with the various types of xD cards used. If you are downloading the image files directly from the camera to the PC, I don't think there would be much problem.

Agreed with the above. I have used Fujifilm camera with xD card for 4 years, previously with F700 & now F30, & I did not face any problem when downloading photos directly from camera to PC, nor loose any photo. So long as the supplied Finepix software is installed properly. Also, nowsaday there are more models of data-bank with card reader that can support both the old xD card and the new type H/M xD card.
Cheers! |

It's not a problem. Just consider the xD card as part of the camera. Connect to computer and transfer. Don't forego the benefits of the Fuji F30 just because of the xD card.

Very early on I have been using a CF-xD adapter because of some reader not recognising the xD card. With the adapter into a CF slot of a card reader I have been enjoying problem-free downloading ever since.

I could not agree less about the XD card issue - it sux ! Its so annoying. I am really pissed off now as both my 1 gb, XD card is useless. When contacted fuji for exchange of cards, the reply was that their cards, when sold, are of fully functational so there is no policy of exchanging of cards. When I threatened to boycott fuji product altogether, I was told to bring the camera with the cards so that they could take a look.
I am really pisssed off !! |

I am using a cheapo $12+ mini card reader , it takes in CF , SD MMC , XD ...etc Using it since the day i got my f30 and no problem at all . Imho there is no perfect camera , how i wish the f30 is using SD mmc instead of the expensive and rare XD . But it is still very worth it after all the minor hassle as the images produce by this mini monster is
FYI this is the cheapo card reader i am using . ![]() ![]() |

So far no problem with xD cards.
There was once I went to the service centre to buy accessories, and another customer was shouting at the staff there about her xD Card not usable brand new. She made an uUgly scene, but a technical staff (I think call Tan or Dan) checked with her and discovered that she never format the card with her camera before first use. |

there are 2 brands of xD cards now...one is Oly (the only one originally) the other by Fuji (recently launched).
Perhaps someone shld take a poll and see if there are more Oly than Fuji or vice-versa that's giving more problems...or both. ![]() |

Aren't the Fuji cards manufactured by Olympus as OEM cards?

The cards were introduced into the market and developed by both Olympus and Fujifilm.
And they're manufactured by Toshiba and Samsung. |

i did lost a card full of pictures with the xD cards.. Didn't knew what's wrong but the camera and card reader refuses to recognise it. So had to format the card again. Never have such problems with other camera makers for 5 years and it happened to my 5 month xD card with my F11 once.
I do hope it don't happen again because the problem seem random in nature. |

If you have the Image Rescue software that comes free with Lexar cards, it can be used to retrieve image files from 'corrupted' xD cards. I used it successfully to rescue all the image files from my xD card when it got corrupted by my card reader.

My F30 is very new, but so far I have had no problems if I format the card in the camera each time I start a new shoot (or after downloading all pics on to PC). I've been doing this with my DSLR, and older P&S, no prob ever. I have seen probs when I deleted some pics thru a PC, put the same card back into a different cam and shoot - the cam tried to shoot but couldn't save the image.
