    Question Renting eqpt

I'm thinking of renting some bodies and lenses, mainly to try out before I buy.
Need some advice from those who have rented or provide rental services.
What is there to take note of when handing/taking over, especially DSLR bodies are quite complicated,
can't possibly check everything, right ?
What if the renter (the person who rents out) claim you damage something upon return ?
I suppose there is some contract you have to sign when you take over, how legal binding is this thing ?
Ok, sorry if I worry too much. I actually take care of other people's things as well as I my own stuff (which is very well),
just worried in case get into some complications left over from previous rentees.
    Thanks.
