Northern Cardinals (wild), on the grounds of the National Zoo, DC 300 f/4+ either 1.4x or 2x TC I wanted a photograph of (1) Cardinal and (2) Snow. Unfortunately, no open fields of snow so no ideal shots like those on the NPN site. Temperatures hovered between -5 to -10 celsius. |

I am really surprise by the lack of comments for this wonderful series of shots. Maybe you shld lower your standard and put some flaws in your shots to invite comments/criticism.

I really like the 3rd picture. The color of the Cardinal really stood up. Btw, don't they fly south for the winter?

thanks for the comments. my self-critique is that there are too many branches in the way. But then, these are semi-wild birds (semi-wild since they hang around the zoo they are not so frightened of humans, but still not going to let u get too close). For those that actually live in the US, they can leave food out in the garden and lure the birds closer for good shots
![]() I did not have my good tripod with my, i brought a tiny slik along to use as a monopod more or less so maximum sharpness was not attained...... |
