    Default Nigeria Posting

    Hi everyone,

I am considering a job posting in Nigeria... for a couple of years
Just thinking if I should take up the job, should I get myself a dry box and bring over there? or buy a dry cabinet there.... or do I need these over there? Seems to be dry and hot place...

Your thinking of a job in Nigeria and the first thing that springs to mind is whether to bring a drybox with you or buy one there?

He's got his priorities right, gotta take care of the camera gear before anything else.

Id be more worried about a) getting the gear there and b) not having it stolen the minute I walk out the airport!

What advice do you want? Buy one here and take it, you will know you have one then, but you will probably have to pay to get it carried over there. Or buy one there, less hassle, but you might not know where to get it from.

    Have fun!

    Bring a safe there better

Just kidding.....well...I think it is quite fragile for you to check in(the glass door) and too bulky for you to hand carry......And I don't believe a dry case will cost very much more there.....even at 200% it will still cost less than $500 for a normal 90L...with the oil money that you have...sup sup water lah

Errr... I'm refering to get a dry box... then carry over...
If can find dry cabinet there, then I'll shift the body + lenses over.

If not, the body and camera must tahan two years inside the box...

Apart from that, have to check if my gf wants to go with me...

Depending on where u stay, if u are staying near the sea, then the weather is a bit humid, but still dryer than sg. Otherwise it's super dry. Bring lots of body moisturizer, it cost almost double the price in sg.

I'm been to Botswana 3 times and have stayed there for quite a while. I believe u be flying to South Africa and then take their international flight to Nigeria. Whatever the case, never leave any things valuable inside your check in laggage. My colleague has his cam stolen and my user, his DVD recorder.

Generally digital stuffs are expensive in the african continent. So do bring a extra battery and memory cards.

    Enjoy your stay there

I would think the answer to the question lies in the humidity level. If it is dry all year round, then you probably don't need a dry cabinet. Google and check on the weather/climate conditions all year round

Dry cabi is an absolute must in our local context, 'cos it is humid here. And that is a good environment for fungal growth..

If u have never been to Nigeria, then dun bring yr expensive gears there on yr 1st trip. U will sure have home-leave later on and then u can decide good or not to bring over the expensive gears. Maybe bring a simple digicam on 1st trip. The place should have plenty of sunshine and outdoor, just ideal for digicam.

You are going for a couple of years, and the company is not paying to have your belonging shipped?

Have you been to Nigeria? If not, you should make a trip first, before you commit.

I think it would be wiser to put a Desert Eagle in your dry cabinet than a DSLR.

Dun even consider the S&W 0.38, our own Singapore police force can't even kill a mad dog with it. Dun talk about nigerians... They are tough.

I think this is a very valid thing to ask the company when they offer u a job posting in far away lands, see it before u commit, very common in job market nowadays...

    Everyone, thanks for your comments.
I have decided not to take up the offer as the letter of appointment states compulsory 2 years and could stretch up to 5 years. Don't think I can commit myself for so long.
