The new Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX lens is a 50-135 with a fast constant aperture of f/2.8. This lens gives digital photographers the similar to the industry standard 80-210 telephoto zoom lens in 35mm camera terms but is much more compact and lightweight.
The lens features SD glass lens elements to correct for chromatic aberrations and focuses all colors accurately at the film plane, making the AT-X 535 PRO DX an APO lens. The front element has a newly formulated WP or “Water Proof” optical coating on the glass. This new coating makes marks such as spots left by water or finger-prints much easier to clean than standard multi-coating.** Other features include a built-in tripod collar and One-touch focus clutch mechanism for fast switching between auto focus and manual focus modes.

If the bokeh rendering of this lens is good, with the focal length range, it may be a good piece of lens for portrait photography.

845g... good weight for a zoom. Compliments Nikkor 17-55mm very nicely.

DX lens in the short telezoom range - I guess this is gonna to be an immensely popular range.
Hope to see this lens real soon in our stores. ![]()

Seem like 3rd party lens manufacturer are cashing on APS-C sensor market. This lens is a direct competition to Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 (but don't have tripod collar, therefore lighter at 770gm, but has a longer reach). Wonder will Tamron come out with a similar version.

HSM and lighter... wow this is indeed good news for users... more to choose from and hopefully cheaper with competition so rife.

For those who haven't used / touched a Tokina lens, before, do go and try one. It's easy to hear everyone say how solid it is and so on, but only when you've touched one, and used one, will you see how far ahead they are of most other brands out there. I had a tokina 12-24 f/4 and the build quality puts my now current canon 10-22 to shame. It felt on par with or better than the Canon 400mm f/4 DO that i've had the chance to try at the Canon Shutterbug event.

Prefer the Tokina built anytime too! But HSM sounds anticing leh... I wonder speed wise is ATX Pro speed comparable with HSM. Nikkor have no such range at F2.8 constant aperture. Nearest one would be 70-200mm? it is such a heeaavvyyyy bugger, twice the weight of this Tokina. But don't know why Tokina makes the tripod collar like that ah?... so puny. ../azul123 |

Yeap, I'm referring to the ATX Pro range. Thanks for the clarification. So far I've tried both the 12-24 (had it for a while) and the 80-400 (at John 3:16). The 80-400 feels very hefty, and the focusing motor feels very "torquey" though the focus speed is average.

this would be like the one stop zoom portrait lens - takes away the 50mm, 85mm, 100mm, 135mm. gosh. if this thing were full frame compatible, i'll buy this without a second blink. but then, it is relatively slow compared to all the f/1.4, f/1.8, f/2.

taking into account 1.5x or 1.6x FLM, the Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX 50-135mm F2.8 is the "fake 80-200/2.8". lol
tokina build is solid like a tank but AF is jerky. |

I like Tokina built as well... but unless you have tried them all, even older built versions. ../azul123 |

Personally, I dislike the Tokina built. People who rave about the 'built like a tank' characteristic of Tokina lenses must often associate weight with built. I once had the Tokina 12-24 lens and got rid of it because of its weight among other factors. The Pentax 12-24 lens which was jointly developed by Tokina and Pentax engineers is so much lighter and yet has the same optical quality. Unless you often throw your camera equipment around as though they cost pennies, I won't give a hoot about heavy lenses.
