Default 1st try at Flowers!

1/250s f/4.8 at 16.2mm (35mm equivalent: 278mm)

very hard to get bokeh effect with A40.....this is the best I got!

1/125s f/4.5 at 13.4mm (35mm equivalent: 231mm)

my first try

This is a good try

Some suggestions:

1. Try to use a bigger aperture (lower f stop like f2.4) to get the "bokeh" effect.

2. Use fill flash, but not directly at the flower. Heehee know its quite difficult with internal flash... maybe you can use a tissue or something to diffuse the flash

Keep on shooting!

By adding flash(proper amount), the flower will somehow be more "lively". It looks a bit flat without the flash especially the 1st one. :P

Anyway, happy practicising macos

i have used an A40 for quite some time before, the only to achieve a really shallow DOF is to use a close up filter. no matter how much you lower your apperture the background will still be distracting.

THe first pic is slightly underexposed. As for the second, you have included to many distracting elements.

Btw I am very curious abt how u calculate the 35mm equivalent of your focal length.

Try using manual focus. Since you have a fix working distance for macro lens, cam will not focus well if you are too far from it. Best solution is go make an appoiintment with megaweb and he will teach you to take good macro shots.

I suggest putting a piece of black velvet cloth behind the flower..
This will make the flower stand out and at the same time using smaller apertures to capture sharp details...
Oh yes, try putting in some reflectors around the flower. It'll lift the shadows, since yours is a build in flash..
