First of all, ask yourself whether you really need to shot at 100mm, 200mm and 300mm. Personally feel that zoom lenses like this give you very soft images if you shot anything beyond 120mm. Unless you have really huge budget for Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR or Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L that really can give you really sharp images.
Why not consider invest a little bit more for lenses that you will use more often and last for you a long long time: Tokina AF 28-80mm F2.8 AT-X 280 AF PRO or Tokina AF 50-135mm F2.8 AT-X 535 PRO DX (Up & coming) or Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 Di-II LD IF I used to be greedy to have long zoom like 200mm & 300mm but the images does not give me any satisfaction because it is always very soft! Tamron 70-300mm and Sigma 70-300mm telephoto Lens! Good for shooting Couple kiss kiss hug hug from far.
haha jkjk.Hm... Not really sure about Sigma 70 - 300mm. Tamron 70-300mm is light weight, images taken is to me still ok (in term of the price of that lens) and it comes with a hood. The Drop back I find is slow and loud AF! ![]() ![]() ![]()

No offence, but it's possible that it's due to handshake. |

Can post actual picture and show the man face so that we can then can compare.
I am quite sure it is soft. I have even use a Tokina 100-300mm f/4 lens (so-called prime lens) yet to results not satisfying. |

The above photo was for centre sharpness. Anyway, looks like you've been quite suay. Get a lot of bad copies.

Regardless it is centre sharpness or not, why not you just post the full shot. Otherwise you maybe painting a false picture. Shot on human face will always tell you facts.

Didn't manage to get out, but so this isn't left hanging, I looked quickly through archives. This was K100D, 170mm, 1/50, f/4.5, ISO 800 Sharp enough for you? |
