For some who has the fetish to take some small product shot, can try this setup of mine at home.

Did a white vanguard sheet ($1 from popular), prop over with whatever you have.
Setup near to a good source of light. For my case, living room lights.

Not I expert or what, IMO adding something in the background like a drink in this case, does
"spice" up the pic abit. Anyway after the shoot, I reckon I am going to be thirsty.
The apple juice will do nicely then.

tks..

is it the resolution part?
I posted the crappy ones (abt 40kb each pic) here.

The better higher res ones is at http://bwilly.multiply.com/photos
or at my clubsnap gallery.

I can't find a white saucer.. hence. I believe its a kopi saucer.
haha...

Any suggestion then on the composition to get better 3D pic?

I don't think beer goes too well with cake...maybe a cup of kopi would be better.

Lighting is a bit flat. Doesn't look tempting enough.

not really, you need a little USM for that.

check out some recipe book of cake and pastry for idea and references of styling.

for lighting wise, give a more direction light to bring out the texture of the cake, it will make them look 3D too.

ok.. know what you meant. I have to raid my parents look for the standing lamp light liao.

N the drink there is apple juice. Beer does not goes well with cake.
I eat peanuts with beer. keke.. EPL nite.

I read some on food photography.. most used fake stuffs to help enhance the image. Like glue, for the white milk for corn flakes shot.
Beef, add grill burnt mark by those two metal iron rods.
I got interest, but not that avid that I start to mess my household stuffs, wife will comes pulling my ear.. ..

I did a few shots with the empty sauce, only when I felt ready, then I took the cake out for the shots.

Black background does not look good with food shots.
nobody does it. It overwhelms the cake.

The colour does look alright to me on my calibrated monitor.

For the sliced part, sorry I got only money to buy one slice of cake.
Could be the cake problem. I can understand the flat part, the cake does taste so so..
