Default Minolta Flash Useable on A-100?

Been trying out my older Minolta flash gun on the A-100 but each shot is over-exposed.

Is there a setting that I need to configure on the camera or is the flash just not compatible.

Anyone care to share? Thanks in advance.

Which Minolta flash are you using ?

So far I only know that the Minolta 5600 HS(D) and Minolta 3600 HS(D) are compatible. There might me others that I'm not aware of.

Thanks very much to you all.

This is indeed a warm and friendly site. Great!

I am using 3200i. Thanks to mastermind bro (or sis), I can see that some of the functions are still okay while others are not.

This means that this flash is as good as a no no for the Alpha. Too bad.

try getting the 5600HS, or the cheaper 3600HS..

Wireless seems to work fine across all the minolta flashes with this facility. Just have to set everything manually. NO TTL for sure. I have the 3500xi, 5400HS and HVLF36AM. Used the A100's on body camera flash to fire all of them wireless, no problem (just make sure that all are on the same channel) [18Oct - I have to correct myself here, this is possible when testing the flash. Doesn't work in actualy application]. Exposure seems to be ok with the lens at f8 or f11. Then again, the ideal aperture setting would depend on how you position all the flash. Using a light meter would probably be advantageous. Otherwise, at least with digital you can take some tests shots to determine the settings and junk all the bad exposured shots.

Tried using the 5400HS on the A100, same thing, have to set up the camera and flash manually. Haven't really had the chance to fully explore this combination though.

My 2 cents worth.
