ygdragon is accurate.
Last year I was in HK and went to Wing Shing and the prices quoted were exactly (to the nearest dollar) as on the site.

For Canon, HK is typically 15-20% cheaper than here. Shanghai and Beijing are also similar (but only if you know where to go). 5% of that is GST but the rest is just Canon Singapore making more margin!! No warranty though.

Last year I wrote in the forum that I would rather pay $1,600 in HK for a 20D instead of getting a second hand 1-year old one here for about the same $. Both no warranty but at least you get a new set!

New 30D is now $1,800 or so in HK, very close to second hand prices here (with some warranty left) so it is a toss up between a 6mth old set with some warranty left and a new set with no warranty.

Want to go HK for Free?

If you’ve plan to buy a DSLR and 1 or 2 lenses, than go HK and buy, the saving will cover your trip there, every year I do that with a couple of friends, having fun too.

Margin or profit for Canon Singapore is too much.

That sounds very attractive! No HK local warranty or international warranty for all items?

Canon 30D save $300
17-55 lens save $300
580 EX save $100

Total saving $700

Airfare on Jetstar $300 incl taxes and charges
Hotel (2 nites) = $250
Local transport = $50
Food = $100

Total costs $700

You get a FREE trip but no warranty for your gear!! If you have friends to put up with or share the hotel room with another photo buff even better!!

IIRC, the lenses(unless you buy water goods) come with 1 yr warranty. Bodies are not covered.

stuff doesnt usually spoil that easily la. i wont buy flashes though. cos i think they're more fragile and unpredictable than lenses or bodies.

Not exactly

HK lens warranty covers "worldwide". But their "worldwide", refers to the whol world of the People's Republic of China. Ask before you purchase, but as always, take it that there is no warranty on items purchased.

Similar experience here. Price stated by the shop was exactly what was listed on the website when I got my 70-200 over there. Warranty should be international, as far as what it says on the card itself. As long as you register the warranty with the Canon HK (which you can actually do via the web).

For info, Oracle's prices are about 4-6% higher than ygdragon (no idea if he imports from HK or not). So if you want to take advantage of more reasonable prices without packing your bags then give him a shout. (Not an option that is as entertaining as a trip to HK I grant you !!). The Oracle's pricing ruins the cost benefit analysis above but of course if you're going over anyway then it's useful to know http://www.ygdragon.net/index.php?pa...ameraprice.htm is reasonably accurate.

Nope. His stuff is mostly from Malaysia as far as I can tell and from my buying experience with him. However, he's a real friendly chap and his service is excellent. Something I can't really say about the shops in HK (ok, it's also probably because I don't speak Cantonese).

Actually you get better service if you only speak Mandarin.

price list at ygdragon.net quite accurate. I bought a lens from CSer with a wing shing receipt, showing the same price as stated at ygdragon.net...

well.. from what i seen of the lenses im keen to get.. like the 70-200, the prices really arent that fantastic as compared to what u get here with oracle or grey etc..

it seems like just a couple of aberrations like the 17-55 and the bodies that get the really good prices.

Hi Guys, Have checked with HK....seems ydragon.net prices may require updates..prices have ease a little...
Tin Cheung quoting Canon 24-105mm F4L IS USM @ HKD8,925..........EOS 5D @ HKD20,160
Checked with 2 other sources, prices also easier but in terms of above stuff not as cheap as Tin Cheung....
Generally, most of them give u International Warranty for the lenses but local warranty for camera body.....
If I can get at least 5 orders for lenses (which seems to be better deal due to their International warranty coverage) and let me charge 50 bucks per piece to cover my trip there, I could make a trip there early Nov to purchase on your behalf.
Any interest? Or someone else make the trip and I pay the 50 bucks for my lense.
Cheers

Think for security/assurance concern: a deposit in the region of 20% should be placed with the person making the trip there. Appreciate feedbacks from all.
Cheers
