Default free silkypix dev 3.0 released (japanese)

get it here

http://www.isl.co.jp/SILKYPIX/japanese/download/

This new version added support for s3pro and s2pro. supposedly uses ALL the s3pro 12Meg for resolution.

Download the test chart s3pro RAW file here and compare between ACR, HU and silkpix yourself
http://www.isl.co.jp/SILKYPIX/japane...mple/chart.zip

My preliminary conclusion is that silkpix does one heck of a job on testcharts. but for other normal subject material the advantage is not so clear. Still it does very well in suppressing false color and keeping the details.

The problem with HU is that is doesn't allow much highlight recovery (-1 stop only) while for ACR it gives a LOT of false color even for my everyday pics. Silkpix doesn't seem to have both problems.

The limitation of the free software seems to be that it can only save to 8bitjpeg files. No tif.

i've peeped at those samples posted in dpreview regarding the new ver of silkypix, i dun find it gives better resolution. the samples still showed similar amount of details compared to HU, only the pic rendering quality is the best among the test.

although S3pro RAW can be processed to 12MP size, however when compared it with a true 10 or 12 MP DSLR (like the 400D or 5D from Canon), there's still a gap difference in details. interestingly the S3pro 12MP has slightly more details comparing to other 6MP DSLR brethren interpolated to the same size.

if i'm not mistaken, the extra set of pixels r not "colour coded". they only takes in b&w info (colour blind) juz for the brightness level to expand the DR, so i'm not surprise to see less details comparing with true 12MP native DSLR.

fuji claiming the S3 has 12MP is politically correct, but whether it actually can resolve the same amount of details as those true 12MP cam is another story. lets see if a S6pro comes with a 10x10MP sensor... thats gonna take another few years....

nope. I am 100% sure that there is color coded information in the r pixels as there are some programs that can isolate the r pixels. see this thread

Anyway just look at the following crops from the SAME raw file. One developed using Fujifilm's Hyper utility and the other is silkypix.
Can you see a difference in resolution???

I do agree is you use HU/ACR to develop the RAW files, s3pro loses out in resolution to 10MP cameras BUT with silkypix, I am not too sure as from the resolution chart alone, there is a HUGE significant bump in resolutioin.
