Default CP killing the competition?

Just wondering ...grey sets aside or parallel imports. Is CP pricing that Good? Many places cannot match their price for certain products.

Recent examples (purchases with friends have made - I was there to witness)
All prices includes GST, International warranty:
Canon 70-200 mm F2.8 L IS - 2750 (Cash, Nets)
Canon 70-200 mm F2.8 L - 1850 (Cash, Nets)
...

I check with AP, MS Color etc ...cannot match CP's offer. Just curious how come they can do it ...

Has anyone asked about prices of other lens as well?

This are really good prices! Don't need to go abroad to buy lens!

Do not be surprise... Canon has made a bold move to reduce their price on their "L" lenses for some models. Probably CP has already taken the new prices into account. You can also check John3:16 Funan's price. As far as I know, even the speedlight has also came down. According to sources, Canon made this move to be a little competetive on the Grey market. They have accepted that Grey market has a very good hold in Singapore photography market. So for those people that do not necessarily like Grey, this is you chance. Not sure though how long this will last, or if it will become a permanent move by Canon.

Good prices for these two wonderful len. Just wondering is it just these 2 lens that have dropped in price (maybe overstocked) or canon lens as a whole?

As I've replied this price reduction is for other "L" lenses too. For sure, even 17-40mm has price reduced, among others.

But if Canon reduces their prices of their warrantied sets, won't this also drive down the prices of the grey sets?

Well anyway, cheaper for me.

I'm still waiting for someone to moan that the new lens prices match the 2nd hand price of his X-year old original local set.

35L is still quite ex i last asked. the price of 35L didn't plunge as much difference as the 70-200Ls. hovering around 2k to 2.1k for anyone who's interested..

Canon Singapore has overcharged us for the warrantied sets for years, compared to other markets like Hong Kong and US. Grey sets are just sets from overseas. So, if they charge us the same as what we can get in Hong Kong and US, theoretically, the grey market will disappear. I don't think the grey sets will become cheaper, else they won't be able to make money.

I don't think they are doing anyone a favour by being competitive. By overcharging us, we just go overseas to buy. They are just recognising that the world market is fusing, with internet getting every more popular, and people nowadays travel a whole lot more.

Maybe, I can finally buy my lenses locally. :P

The cheap price is because of CASH/nets.They don't have to factor in the credit cards commission.I pay "Hard Cash" and CP competitor will sell me $10/$20 cheaper than CP.Before you buy, you must state that you are paying "Hard Cash".
I bought a camera body from CP, they quoted the lowest price with GST S$2780, no further reduction. I told them that I am paying cash, right away and I am will pay S$2750, after they use their calculator, they accepted and I got my camera.
